Tom McClintock: Sequestration is the only way to cut spending
Human events ^

While most of official Washington is panicking over the prospect of budget sequestration set to kick in on Jan. 1, one congressman says the fiscal trigger is the best prospect the country currently has for getting spending under control.

“Sequestration’s the only hope we have to get spending under control,” Rep. Tom McClintock (R-Calif.), who sits on the House Budget Committee, told Human Events this week. “I would like to see adjustments made within the sequestration levels to reduce the cuts to defense spending, spending. But it’s the only chance we have to avoid a sovereign debt crisis.”

I am starting a "Draft McClintock" movement for 2016. If you are interested let me know and will start a Tom McClintock ping list.

I’m with you on McClintock. There are some worth supporting, and Tom is one of them.

Obama is going to gut the military anyway. Just say go over the cliff.

I laugh at dems supposedly worrying about tax hikes on the middle class after lying through their teeth about the Bush tax cuts for the rich all these years.

Give the voters what they asked for.

In addition to my previous post I want to say though that I don’t support “drafting” anyone that says they aren’t interested, or doesn’t make the move voluntarily to campaign for a specific office. It means to me they aren’t really all that interested, and won’t be putting their all into any campaign ie; Fred Thompson.

Need to hear it from Tom himself that he’s interested, and then for him to establish his campaign before I would jump in to support him.

During the California recall election McClintock was certainly right about Arnold Schitzzeneger.

Yes he did. My vote was for McClintock, and still have hopes for the future, but Tom has to say he wants to do it, and push all the buttons to start the machine.

Just another way to say there is no political will in DC to do what needs to be done.

The problem is the lying Dems will pin it on the GOP and the sheeple will blame them. No Media will point out that it was those evil “Bush Tax Cuts” expiring only that evil Rethuglikkans wouldn’t deal with Saint Obama.

It’s a no win situation.

GOP should point out that it was 6 GOP (3 moderate Congress and 3 moderate Senators) with 3 Dem Congressmen and 3 Senators who agreed to the deal in order to raise the debt ceiling. The MSM applauded this as badly needed bipartisanism, while conservative GOP who criticized the deal as kicking the can down the road were vilified by the MSM as obstructionist and playing politics with the debt ceiling. Now the MSM wants to criticize the deal??!!!!!! If you stand and fight they will shoot you, if you turn and run they will shoot you, if that is the deal, then stand and fight.

Strange but true..
Nothing else is going to rein in the spending.

What a waste of a Recall in 2003.. and who knows what could have been. a chance to stem the tide of the madness that is unfettered growth in gubamint at all levels.

but endorsements by Hannity or Leno weren’t forthcoming and we got Terminated instead with climate control regs that killed off even more businesses and nailed the lid on the CaGoP’s future.. Yup, strange but true. and then the state goes recycle mode and re-elects Moonbeam. WeathDish 2012.

Tom McClintock for Governor was the last vote I cast in that sorry state before I skeedaddled to AZ. He would have had CA in a much better condition that Ahnold or Dippity-Do Moonbeam.

Sequestration seriously guts the military. IT MUST NOT BE ALLOWED TO HAPPEN. There is NOTHING conservative about destroying our military readiness. Obviously, the military can and should be cut some, but NOT like this.

To even think sequestration is remotely “good” is to take leave from reality. One may as well surrender the country to China, Russia, et. al. Insanity!

Does anyone know precisely and correctly how many dollars would be cut under the so called “sequesteration” program?

My understanding is that the amount is approximately $45 billion for each year the next ten years.

to answer my own question, and after a little research, DOD is being asked to cut 492 billion dollars of spending between 2013 and 2021 or 9 years or approximately 55 billion in cuts per year. Exempt from this is the cost of any wars.

I think the question becomes for Freepers “how much of a cut from defense is enough, if any?”
