Every time I watch Blazing Saddles, I think the same thing. Today, Mel Brooks would be strung up for such a movie.

One of the best comedies ever, IMHO.

Reverse the race of all the characters in the film and it would get to the theaters. It it would suck but there would be nothing taboo about it.

I love how the non-gay, Christian, male, is the only person not aloud to be offended.

The thing is Blazing Saddles was not only a satire of classic movie westerns and movie making in general but also a satire on race relations and prejudices - the black sheriff was the hero of the movie. And Mel Brooks as the Indian chief who speaks Yiddish- “They darker than us! Woof!” LOL!

“History of the World Part One” was very un-PC, too.

A Jewish coworker told me that as a Catholic, I should have been offended by the Inquisition scene where Torquemada says “Send in the nuns!”

She didn’t like that the persecuted Jews in that sketch were either blond or redheaded (one of them was Jackie Mason).

Anyway, my favorite Blazing Saddles line: “Wie geht’s, meine Schatzi?”

;^)
