Akin lost the race after he opened his mouth about rape. Then, Missouri's open primary allowed anyone to vote him in as the selected candidate (as directed by Claire's commercials) vs. two superior candidates. He thought Republicans gave him a mandate. They didn't. Claire did.

Then there was a TV debate that showed him to be a slow thinking dolt with a bad comb-over. The “war on women” was simply a backdrop. Akin’s ego finished the job of reelecting McCackle.
