Massachusetts to give in-state tuition to illegal immigrants
The Republican ^

Illegal immigrants in Massachusetts will become eligible for in-state tuition at public universities and community colleges, based on an interpretation of a new federal law by Democratic Gov. Deval Patrick.

In June, Democratic President Barack Obama announced that the Department of Homeland Security will grant temporary relief from deportation to some illegal immigrants who immigrated as children and do not represent a public safety threat. The policy allowed the government to grant “deferred action” status to these immigrants, which means they would not be deported for two years and they would be granted work visas. The government has started accepting applicants for the program.

The State House News Service first reported on Monday that Patrick planned to send a letter to Higher Education Commissioner Richard Freeland stating that under the administration’s interpretation of that law, illegal immigrants are eligible for in-state tuition at Massachusetts’ 29 public universities and community colleges.

In the letter, which was obtained by MassLive.com, Patrick wrote that in light of the change in federal law, “I am advised by counsel – and I agree – that beneficiaries of the (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) policy are eligible for in-state tuition under our existing rules and regulations. Therefore, I am directing you to advise the various public higher education campuses to take action accordingly so that this policy can be implemented immediately and uniformly across our 29 state campuses.”

How about when you find a illegal immigrant applying, you let them so you know where they will be, and notify ICE so they can come get them to ship them back.

Hey, there’s a good idea!

It goes over really well when military families who retire in state have to pay full fare for their children who’ve been living in state for many years but are not residents until the parents have been legal residents for two years.

But the illegals go with in state fare. People stupid enough to work for a living and who serve in the armed forces. Second class.

I love the provision of this policy whereas it is effective immediately and since they are in the middle of a semester they are eligible for a refund of the overpayment back to the start of the semester.

Not at all surprised to find Deval Patrick preferring illegal aliens over American citizens.

That happens when you give them instate tuition and tell other Americans in other states to take a hike on that.

At some point here we really do need to get rid of these people.

Let’s not forget about their preferential acceptance status and lower standards because they are minorities! America...the land of opportunity unless you are born here and pay taxes.

What do you expect when the MA attorney general declares it’s not illegal to be illegal here? Utter BS. Remember this is the state that houses Barry’s illegal aunt and drunkard uncle. People in this state may be book smart but have zero common sense. I can’t wait to leave this hellhole.

One thing conservatives have to stop doing is claiming taxpayers are ‘subsidizing’ the aliens tuition. This is not true, they simply get the in state rate. Claiming this kind of crap only gives the other side fuel. It’s wrong but argue the real points instead of making stuff up.

Actually, taxpayers are subsidizing the illegals' educations, since the state university system is taxpayer subsidized.

Illegals take limited spots from taxpaying LEGAL citizens, the people who subsidize the system.

Every spot given to an illegal is one less spot available for a LEGAL citizen.

Legal U.S. citizens who work in the state and pay Massachusetts state income tax but live in NH or RI, for instance, are also subsidizing the state system through their tax dollars, yet unlike illegals, they are charged the out-of-state rate.

The same taxpayer rip-off is taking place in Texas and California.

Oh, I like this. Let’s make sure as many illegals as possible move to MA and settle there.

Also, most of these illegals appear to be on the lower end of the economic spectrum, because although they access public benefits, they hide their cash income. So now they’ll be sucking up the financial aid that by rights should be going to legal citizens.

In-state tuition is already exorbitant. In this era of climbing costs and shrinking budgets, this move by Deval Obama, Jr. is reckless, irresponsible, and an insult to the legitimate citizens of the state who pay all the bills.

Actually, it's not wrong. To a degree in-state tuition might pay for some very low tuition levels that cover only out of pocket costs. But in no case do any in-state tuition levels anywhere cover sunk costs ~ usually the capital costs of buildings, and usually not the maintainance costs of the buildings.

In all cases an illegal alien in a college paying instate tuition is displacing some other American student ~ who might even be an out of stater who would pay a higher tuition ~ that's an opportunity cost you guys usually don't account for.

The point is that MOST Americans are excluded from these deals that are given to illegal aliens!

That's not at all the sort of discrimination my folks signed onto when they arrived in 1598. My country ~ not yours!

If they are going to do this than anyone legal American citizen/resident alien who has had to pay out-of-state tuition should sue to refund the difference. In the future, any American citizen/resident alien should never have to pay out-of-state tuition rates again. In fact, they should get rid of out-of-state status altogether.

I can’t wait to leave this hellhole.

I used to think about it and dismiss it, but someday, once certain family members are no longer on this earthly plane, I'm moving to a red state. The recent election proved that this state is indeed a hellhole where 63% of its residents are bat$#!^ crazy.
