Blair Says 'Cultural Dialogue' Can Build Bridges With The Middle East Former British prime minister Tony Blair says politics 'can only take you so far' in forging better relationships between nations at the launch of a new initiative to promote cultural exchange between the Middle East and the West.

Speaking at Londons Dorchester hotel on Friday during the launch of a new initiative to encourage cultural exchange between the Middle East and the West, the former British prime minister, 59, said:
There is an absence of a proper system of dialogue [between nations]. Politics only takes you so far. What we need is cultural dialogue.
The East-West: The Art of Dialogue initiative was being launched by the Shafik Gabr Foundation, run by Egyptian businessman and philanthropist Shafik Gabr.
He said: There is a need for significant bridge-building and new platforms for people-to-people communications.
Despite the massive growth of access to electronic and social media in recent years, he continued, direct unmediated interaction between the Arab World and the West is at a low point. Stereotypes are hardening into caricatures.
