Petraeus Affair: 'There's No Dark Plot Here,' Jill Kelley's Friend Says
ABC News ^ | November 20, 2012 | LEE FERRAN , MIKE GUDGELL and NED BERKOWITZ

A man who says he's a "very close friend" of Jill Kelley, the woman at the center of the scandal that brought down CIA chief David Petraeus, told ABC News that Kelley's portrayal in the media is inaccurate, as are any insinuations that she hoped to profit financially from her close connection to America's spymaster.

Don Phillips, a Tampa real estate developer, said in an interview that Kelley is "the best kind of friend" anyone would like to have, including America's top military officials.

"Take everything you know and turn it around 180 degrees," said Phillips, who has known Kelley and her husband for five years. "The reason these people [the Kelleys and military officials] are close is not because there [was] any untoward thing or any unseemly thing but quite to the contrary. It's because they are trustworthy people and they've kept their mouths closed. They don't go out to sensationalize these issues. They don't talk about getting involved in scandal."

Adam Victor told ABC News Friday that Kelley had claimed it was Petraeus who arranged for her to be named honorary consul to South Korea and, as a result, she could use her connections with high-level Korean officials to help him land a large coal gasification deal in the Asian country. Victor also alleged that Kelley demanded a 2 percent commission on the deal, a fee of about $80 million.

(snip)

Phillips, who introduced Victor to Kelley, confirmed that the two had discussed the Korea deal, but said Kelley was the one who ended the business relationship after Victor "propositioned" her.

The fact that these twins are in debt to the tune of $18 million has no importance to anything. Even if Kelley’s hubby makes $250,000 a year, and all they do is pay debt, it will take them 60 years to get out of the hole they’ve dug themselves. And believe me, this is a woman who likes money. Her plastic surgery bills as she gets older are going to run into the millions.

I read yesterday that Kelley was allegedly connected to the Muslim Brotherhood and then heard last evening her twin sister has retained Gloria Allred (who probably is). There may not be a bottom to this for some time.

Just to keep the scoreboard straight: We don't know that Jill Kelley nor her sister, slept with anyone except their spouses. Paula Broadwell is the only one we know for sure slept with Petraeus.

We do know there were sexual type emails between Jill and General Adams when he was in Iraq and we know his wife didn't appreciate these emails.

You don't have to be military to be cautious about being blackmailed. My deceased husband was an officer in an insurance company and he dealt with money going to agents. He was at a meeting where there was a convention going on. One night, two insurance agents knocked on his door and there they were with a naked lady offering her to him. He told them to leave and not to try that again.

When he got home, he told me about this and said if he had let that woman in his room, thousands of agents would hear about that and could demand he do this or that with money for them. He said they could blackmail him and he would surely lose his job if something like that happened and the president of the company found out. He was thinking with his brain, not another part of his body. He and I were also soul mates and we trusted each other completely so he would have sent the woman away for that reason also.

Petraeous didn't consider his life long career, his job, and his marriage could be lost. He evidently was with her more than once and he still didn't think with his brain. He had to know what could happen and he kept denying to himself it really could happen. Well, his career is sullied, he lost his job, and it remains to be seen if his marriage stays together.

It really is sad. One has to protect what one has and he didn't do that.

Even flew with Gen. John Allen, who she exchanged ‘flirty’ emails with
Kelley and sister Natalie Khawam visited White House three times in past three months as the guest of an aide they met at MacDill Air Force Base

Did I read this story wrong or did not this Victor guy invite her to contribute her connections?

Maybe her fauxpas was to hook the 2% to the life of the project instead of a couple of years gross revenues or wanted her 2% up front.

Bret Baier: How solid are your sources?
Jennifer Griffin: As solid as they get.

Sure there is no plot.

Meanwhile, in other news...

Jill Kelley’s pet Afghan longhair terrier just released a statement saying...

“My master Jill is a wonderful pet owner. She feeds me Kobe beef EVERY meal. She also takes me to the vet and the pet stylist on a regular basis. I am truly a pampered pet and I couldn’t ask for a better master.”

What's so ironic is the dog's name is "Little General P". Don't know if that has a special meaning of some sort.
