Socialism Is A One-Way Street To Oblivion

We are all aware of the slippery slope that the profligate spending of our politicians has put our nation on, and those who are honest enough to admit it know that the mighty United States of America is headed for a fiscal disaster that, if our course is not drastically altered, will shake the very foundations of our stability and reduce the greatest nation the world has ever known to a Greece-like shell complete with social upheaval and worthless currency.

When we think about the ramifications of our decades of foolishness, we tend to be concerned about the social fall out, the unemployment, the effect on take home pay, the quality of life and the unpleasant and painful changes in America.

What we do not tend to think about is what will happen to a military that is no longer able to keep up with our enemies in the development and manufacture of modern weapons. We fail to consider the consequences of falling behind the rest or the world in an age where a short lag in research and development can mean facing a weapon we have no defense for. Central planning is useless if people will not follow the plan. Socialists must have the ability to ensure the plan is enforced. By nature they become intrusive, and often repressive.
In capitalism, everyone follows their own plan, so no central enforcement is needed.

Ergo, capitalism creates freedom, socialism does not. However, socialism empowers leaders, so governments always seek to become more socialist.

One of the most important findings of the Austrian school of economics is that central planning is useless even if people follow the plan. Without feedback in the form of relative prices, central planners cannot possibly plan and direct an economy.

Then the British industrialist,Robert Owen, came along in 1826 and started the first commune in America in New Harmony, Indiana. It still didn’t work.

Every time it has been tried it has always failed destroying people, economies, ecosystems, and everything else in its wake. Private property and individual free enterprise capitalism has always succeeded OTOH.

Socialism and communism will always lead to destruction. The Law of Effect will ensure that. When you reward the slackers and punish the hard workers, eventually, you will have so few hard workers that the system collapses.

What about water quality and disease control and infrastructure maintenance and food inspection and a thousand other essential services that could and will be affected if America continues on this path to fiscal insanity?

I was discussing this with my wife earlier. If the government goes broke, a million things will go wrong. The world counts on the U.S.A. for the work we do on disease control, pest control and crop quality. If the money is not spent there, we face huge crop failures to disease and pests. Then the world-wide famine begins. And it won't just be the third world, it will be us starving. The next decade will certainly be an interesting time to live (or die) in.
