So, if they found signs of life there (e.g. soil microbes, fossils etc.) what would our reaction be? Seriously. Would we be excited that life can exist elsewhere? Would it change the way any of us think? I don’t have an answer, but am curious how this would affect people. Thoughts?

He used “preclude” correctly. He was stating that the discovery does not necessarily mean anything, thus is doesn’t preclude. Conclude wouldn’t work.

You’re right about “perchlorate” though.
