To: Cincinatus' Wife

There are probably a *LOT* of conservative agnostics, but they keep their mouths shut because of the number of people who are absolutely convinced one cannot be a constitution following, patriotic American without being either a Evangelical or an Orthodox Jew.

It’s silly, but just another way the conservative movement shoots itself in the foot in a quest for ‘purity’.

I know of more than one atheist Republican who will gladly mouth the words to a hymn or tell you s/he is “saved” so as to make peace within family and caucus (and keep the focus on the economy where it belongs), while believing it all to be absurd.

No kidding.

I get it both ways. First as an ex-Catholic because, after all, as a kid I was completely empowered to choose the Church my parents took me to and secondly as an ex-Catholic because I don't share the same beliefs as others.

Leads to some entertaining conversations and rocking the "purists" back on their heels.
