Sowell argues that modern pedagogical methods are cruel and fail to obtain the desired results of education.

Although he is one of his generation’s greatest social critics, Sowell errs, however, in presuming that genuine education is objective of public schools. There are only two objectives of public schools: 1) socialization of future citizens of the welfare state and 2) the welfare of teachers and educrats.

Recent election results demonstrate how well the public schools have accomplished these ends. A large majority of Americans now embraces the welfare state. The major party candidates only debate its administrative details.

And the hijacking of education by socialists is what created the vacuum (the need for real education and not propaganda and brainwashing) which is being filled by the likes of Salman Khan of Khan Academy.
