I have thought and opined all along that this little dust-up was a piece of Potemkin theatre all along. Conducted by everyone but Israel, but on further thought, maybe Israel is in on it. Israel has an interest in maintaining or propping up some form of stability in the form of Morsi and hey, if his palm is sufficiently greased, maybe he will act something more like an ally. Or at least a baby-sitter for hire.
Just another Israeli-Pali exchange among many, designed to legitimize Morsi. And the funny thing is, it doesn’t even matter if a cease fire lasts more than maybe a week...”cease fire” meaning less than about a dozen rockets tossed over Israel’s border a day. Henceforth, I absolutely guarantee we will repeatedly hear “the cease fire brokered by Morsi”...or “the Egyptian-led cease fire”, as if Israel had utterly nothing to do with it, as if anybody had to do anything other than figuring out whatever is needed to cause Hamas to stop lobbing rockets. Of course if Israel devastated Hamas via counterattack and Hamas was stopped in *that* fashion, that would be genocide. Just ask the Pope. Or the Turks.
All that’s left is for Morsi and Hamas to figure out the split of the vig the US and Europe will send to Morsi, roughly $10 billion last I read. This is why we are hearing that Hamas “won”. The Palis could get $1-2-3 billion out of this, who knows.
If this lasts 2 months, Morsi gets a Nobel peace prize nomination. You heard it here first.
More like a distraction from the Syrian rebels who just took over a bunch of weapons and stuff in Syria after a 2 month siege. I wonder where they got the weapons to lay siege on a Syrian Army base.
