The U.N. wants to use drones, the French news agency Agence France-Presse reports. "The United Nations wants to use drones for the first time to monitor fighting in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, where Rwanda has been accused of aiding rebels," says the report, quoting U.N. officials.
The international body "is considering a range of ways to strengthen the capabilities of MONUSCO to protect civilians from the threat of armed groups in the vast area of eastern DR Congo," a U.N. spokesman says.
"Unarmed aerial vehicles, drones for monitoring the movements of armed groups, are one tool we are considering."
The spokesman, Kieran Dwyer, insists the U.N.'s use of drones would be done carefully.
"Of course, we would do this carefully, in full cooperation with the government of the DR Congo, and trialing their most effective uses for information gathering to help implement our mandate to protect civilians," says the spokesman.
"Ultimately, to introduce these, we would need the support of member states to equip the mission."

The U.N. wants ,wants , wants ,it has nothing ,but it wants everything ,drones ,taxes etc etc
Can we give them the one at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue???
The U. N. didn’t need drones to administer the demilitarized zone between Israel and Lebanon.
When it proves it can handle that job, we’ll talk about other jobs.
Frankly, I don’t ever see a reason for the U. N. to get drones. They’ve got a building full of them in New York.
I’m pretty sure everybody reading this thread has the capability of declawing a drone unless the operator spots them first.
Smurf to Jihad, IR has the Dunks hiding under chaff in the field East of you.
That is exactly what I suspect also.
And of course the United States will pay the bill, provide the drones ,and the personnel for them.
Drones are being beta tested in Pakistan and elsewhere. Anyone who thinks they aren’t going to be used against domestic “terrorists” in the future (and sooner than you think), you have your head in the sand. Everything is in place for them to “legally” do this already. All they need is one more big (engineered) emergency. The bottom is going to drop out when they need the bottom to drop out. Prepare now.
Countdown till strategic information is up for sale....
The UN already has plenty of drones. They occupy prime real estate in Manhattan, and park their cars wherever they damn well please.
“The U.N. wants to use drones”!!
And I want to shoot some U.N. drones down out of the sky.
Too bad ALL my guns were lost in a boating accident 14 miles off shore.
