China conducts flight landing on aircraft carrier

LIAONING AIRCRAFT CARRIER, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- China has successfully conducted flight landing on its first aircraft carrier, the Liaoning, naval sources said.

A new J-15 fighter jet was used as part of the landing exercise.

After its delivery to the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy on Sept. 25, the aircraft carrier has undergone a series of sailing and technological tests, including the flight of the carrier-borne J-15.

Capabilities of the carrier platform and the J-15 have been tested, meeting all requirements and achieving good compatibility, the PLA Navy said.

Since the carrier entered service, the crew have completed more than 100 training and test programs.

The successful flight landing also marked the debut of the J-15 as China's first generation multi-purpose carrier-borne fighter jet, the PLA Navy said.

Designed by and made in China, the J-15 is able to carry multi-type anti-ship, air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles, as well as precision-guided bombs.

The J-15 has comprehensive capabilities comparable to those of the Russian Su-33 jet and the U.S. F-18, military experts estimated.

That is a little weird with all the registration marks on the aircraft; that and the lemon yellow finish. I’m betting they’re filming the landings and need the registration marks to feed into a computer program to try and optimize the landing; optimize in this case meaning to avoid a ramp strike.

The purpose of this thing is to park off shore of Africa and protest ChiCom interests.

They did not build this to directly go against us. That is 50 years from now.

“Four more years of 0bama means China gets free access to our most sensitive technology for four more years!”

Good. Maybe Buckwheat can teach the ChiComms how to anneal a bolt. He could also tell these dopes that a plus or minus one-quarter-inch tolerance on sockets doesn’t hack it.

Yo-Yo - I found this interesting after looking at your link:

Note the comment about using English for talks with other Navies - won't that piss off the French?       ;^)

And yet another brilliant success and milestone for advocates of our ‘free trade” policies.

Exactly.

And if the GOP weren’t filled with a bunch of morons on trade policy, the PRC wouldn’t have the cash to pursue programs like this, let alone have the ready access to US technology that’s been outsourced to their country’s manufacturing sector to put into these ships and aircraft.

We enriched them so they could afford this, and then we gave them the technology.

Who’s stupid here? It sure doesn’t look like the Chinese are the stupid people here.

By the looks of all those bilge pump discharges, the thing leaks like a sieve, unless those are scuppers from flight deck drains.

French is the international language of surrender. I think the RNC is learning French.

Oh, we will never list political commissars in the chain of command. Thats utterly backwards.
Thank goodness our post tailhook military leadership cannot -imagine- looking over their shoulder to make sure everything they do meets with crass political approval./

“They use the ramp because they don’t have the catapult technology to launch.”

That doesn’t make sense. They can build the jet with folding wings, they build all kinds of ships. They were given a lot of technology but are still able to have guys orbiting in space. They build atomic bombs and fully penetrated Los Alamos labs. They can build and assemble large hydroelectric dams. They can build airliners. They assemble and fully understand all our computers, tablets, iphones, etc.

But the one thing that stumps them is a lowly catapult? If somehow, that was the one thing they couldn’t understand, it isn’t exactly the most closely guarded military secret.

It’s probably because they got that Russian carrier at a firesale price from Ukraine, who would never have used it. That carrier was already a ski jump ship. Wonder how much load they lose for takeoff compared to a cat? Also factor in that that Suhkoi copy has much more power than an F-18, so maybe it balances out.
We’ll see if this turns out to be a one off national pride ship, or if they start building more.

True; I inartfully said that.
They have the knowledge, but I don't think it's feasible to add steam cats after the vessel has been fully built. The cats take a hell of a lot of steam that can screw up the temps on those oil-burner boilers.

" Building a steam cat carrier has to be designed that way from the keel up. " is what I meant to say. Thanks.

Yep, like its sister ship, the Russian Kuznetsov, it has four.

Our carriers had four and I believe some still do, but they are all being transited to three, and the new Ford class will come out that way with the new arresting system.

OK First trapped landing. But this picture from the official commissioning certemony in September shows they were doing touch and goes just ahead of #4 wire even before then.

They are serious about getting it operational.
