An adorable 5-year-old girl on her way home from a family baby shower was shot in the stomach by a stray bullet early this morning in front of her Bronx apartment building, police said.
Relatives thought young Hailey Dominguez had fainted on the steps in the Hughes Avenue courtyard outside her apartment shortly before 1 a.m. They tried to carry her to the fifth-floor apartment where she lived before they realized she had been shot.
"We didn't know she got shot," said Keyla Rosario, the victim’s 15-year-old sister. "We were crying, not her."

You always know its a serious injury with children when they don’t cry. It scares the hell out of you.

Exactly. I’ve been to baby showers—they’re usually afternoon affairs. This was a party that this little child had no business being at. A five year-old should have been fast asleep for several hours at that time of night.

We should pray for her; now I can’t remember the FReeper with the prayer list, but if anyone does, perhaps he or she could send out a ping. Little kids in these circumstances need all the help they can get.

I’ll never forget, when I was thirteen years old, I tried on my new roller skates and hit a bump on the driveway; I broke my leg and couldn’t move. I didn’t say anything—but my Dad saw it happen and carried me to the car and drove as fast as he could to the hospital.
I didn’t say a word. Every bump in the road hurt so much, but I was kind of removed, mentally, from the situation. It was all a blur. It was like I was spacing out; I couldn’t talk.

Not so true. It depends on what county you are in. After you get a CCW in Cali it is good for all of the state. I have friends who live in Oakland and I am concerned for them.
the party could have been in a nearby town..1 or 2 hour drive, if a family affair, then after the party long goodbyes could have taken place maybe 15 or 20 minutes or so, and stopping at the local market for milk and cereal for breakfast might have consumed another 20 minutes....very easy to explain.
You hear shots, and someone with you faints/passes out/collapses. But you’re not smart enough to check for gunshot wounds? Amazing!
The county I live in, the police chief is a huge libtard. He doesn’t believe anyone should own a weapon, handgun nor rifle.
Well, if the party required that much time, I would have passed on the party, or I would have gotten a sitter for the little girl. A child that age belongs in her bed at that hour.
And really? Stopping for tomorrow’s breakfast at such an hour? When a woman has a child she needs to be more organized. One of the many problems today, as I see it, is that mothers do not put the welfare of their children first.
get real...parents go places with their children all the time and late hours are not at all unusual. I remember many, many times when there were children asleep in the party givers bedrooms and bundled into cars to be taken home when the paarty was over...it wasn't unusual at all because most people couldn't afford a sitter, didn't want one, waanted their children to enjoy the earlier parts of the party, wanted extended family to get to know their children even better, build strong extended families....whatever You don't leave your children at home with a stranger because you won't return until after midnight....ever
Bedtime was always an important, bonding time ritual for my children — nice bath, teeth brushed, book, prayers, sleep. I am always appalled to see little ones left to crawl around on the floor and left to fall asleep unbathed. And I cringe when I drive through neighborhoods where children are out at late hours.
When my 4 were little, party-going was put on hold. Family affairs did not go on until all hours, and the numerous visits to grandmother’s house got us home at a reasonable hour.
I can see that there is no point in arguing this back and forth, as we have differing views of mothering.
