West Virginia Republican Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito will announce Monday morning that she is running in 2014 for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Democrat Jay Rockefeller.
Capito has long considered a run for the Senate, and passed on the most recent opportunity following the death of long-time Senator Robert Byrd. She's expected to say, among other things, that the timing is now right for her run.
The announcement sets up a potential race between two West Virginia political heavyweights.

I don’t think Rockefeller has had to fight for election, like in forever.
I don’t know that much about capito...would like to hear other’s thoughts on her. I am sure she is not perfect but at this point I want to win.
Iam sure that Target #1 has a much larger bank account than the challenger. Alas. Rocky = the new Byrd.
Shelley is not hard-shell conservative, but she is conservative. She is Republican of course, and she has done a good job as a representative in Congress. She is also a fairly good friend of mine and I think a lot of her. Very nice person. I am excited that she is running and I think she can win. Rocky is old and nobody but the good ole boy machine in Charleston likes the carpetbagger. Our Tea Party will be working for Shelley. I will be working for Shelley.
I would be pleasantly surprised in the event that Rockefeller loses. When does Capito start accepting donations?

Any time I am sure. She has always traveled the state shaking hands with and talking to people in every town. She is a worker and she knows West Virginians. She probably has enough creds to do battle with the democrat machine in this state.
That is all I needed to hear. I will be sending money as soon as her campaign is up and running.
Yep, Arch was very much loved in WV. That is why they voted for Shelley when she first ran for Congress. She has proved herself, and stands on her own now.
I’ll get word to her to be “friendly” to Freepers because they can help her.
She can’t win. She’s an American.
So? WV is still American too.
I’ve had the oppurtunity to meet her several times. Each time I’ve talked with her about certain topics she surprises me by having a broad knowledge base. The staff that she has are top notch also. They helped me out on a foreign travel issue that I had a couple of years ago. Glad to hear she’s running against the Socialist. She’ll get my vote and support for sure.
i hope she wins, but isnt this a tad early? has anyone ever announced they’re running in november of the current election year?
