More congressional Republicans break tax pledge for sake of looming fiscal crisis

New York Rep. Peter King and Sen. Lindsey Graham said Sunday they would break the pledge and accept tax changes to generate more revenue to curb the trillion-dollar federal deficit.

Their statements followed a similar one Thursday by Georgia Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss.

“I agree entirely with Saxby Chambliss,” King said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “A pledge you signed 20 years ago, 18 years ago, is for that Congress. … The world has changed, and the economic situation is different.”

The New York congressman said he was opposed to tax increases but that “everything should be on the table” when President Obama, House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid try to broker a deal.

“I'm not going to prejudge it, and I'm just saying we should not be taking ironclad positions,” King added. “I have faith that John Boehner can put together a good package.”

Do these dummies think that their future Dem opponents won’t pull on Clinton on a George H.W. Bush in their next race, and win because of it?

Can’t they see the real problem is the growth of government ?
Close the departments of Education, commerce and Energy. Keep whatever important functions they’re responsible for and lay off 95 percent of the staff.
Turn off the heat in their buildings.

King added. “I have faith that John Boehner can put together a good package.”

Most ironic and stupid comment from the article.

Everyone that stayed home in November deserves this. You got what you voted or didn’t vote for in this case. Good luck surviving until 2014.

Never trusted Peter King since the clinton scandals. People forget he was one of the first rinos on MSNBC and whorealdo who defended clinton and kept up the mantra of “it was just about sex”.

“A pledge you signed 20 years ago, 18 years ago, is for that Congress.”

And the next election in your district or state is for YOU.

I say capitulate, 100% entirely and completely allow the Democrats to take the reigns and take FULL responsibility for “leading” us in this situation. No more Bush blaming. Let’s just allow our Republican party politely get out of the way.

Make sure Democrats get full credit. Let the country see where following them gets us.

Hey! I got an idea!

Why don’t they go along with 0bama’s / democrats’ plans and then take responsibility for the disastrous consequences?

Wouldn’t that be a great plan?

Yeah, we all know that tax increases result in the forecasted revenue increases....oops, no it doesn’t. The people in all sectors of our country are oblivious to facts and historical reality. It is amazing, everywhere I look we see bizarro world!

Generate more revenue to curb the trillion-dollar federal deficit.
Stop funding the rail road and post office to start with and cut other money pit funding.

Safety in numbers. Now they have all found an excuse to dump the no tax pledge. Let the spending begin.

Anyone remember what happened to the report, not that long ago, that showed the overlap and duplicate programs/etc.?

How about 0 baseline budgeting? Make ‘em fight for every penny they want to steal!

Now, how again would a Mitt win have changed anything?! Already getting smeared in the press and they come out of the gate grabbing their ankles. Dimes difference is right
