Hamas’ brutal execution of a number of men who it claimed were Israeli collaborators led to a lot of headlines complete with photos of bodies being dragged around behind motorcycles. But in the Muslim world, it’s important to understand context, not just content, and everyone lies all the time. Collaborators are often executed in the West Bank and Gaza, however these people are rarely agents of Israel. Israeli intelligence is pretty good and not that easy to penetrate. Hamas seems to rely more on the Iranian version of Islamic militancy (Shi’ite), and in fact, much of their resupply comes from this source.
The Muslim Brotherhood, now entrenched in Egypt, seems to favor the Arabic version of Islamic militancy (Sunni/Wahhabi), and have been fighting an internecine series of skirmishes with the Shi’ites. The Hamas organization, nominally a part of the Muslim Brotherhood, have been placing much of their allegiance with Iran. This is simply a continuation of the bloody conflict that Saddam Hussein waged against the Shi’ite Arabs of Iraq, and the continuous border war he had going on with Iran for years before the First Gulf War broke out.
