MILLER: Harry Reid goes nuclear

Democrat’s power grab takes away minority Republicans’ rights

Forget about bipartisanship; Harry Reid has decided there’s no option that goes too far if it means diluting the influence of Republicans. The Senate majority leader plans to break with long-standing tradition in January by rewriting the chamber’s rules to silence the Republican minority. It’s a shortsighted maneuver, because it means Democrats will have no input in the legislative process when they find themselves out of power in the future.

The hostilities spilled into the open on Monday and Tuesday with a rare, heated series of floor debates between Mr. Reid and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell over filibuster reform. The Republican leader said on the floor Tuesday, “Here we are with this explosive nuclear option being thrown into the chamber at a time when we ought to be turning the election off and trying to come together to solve the biggest problem … the fiscal cliff and the nation’s seemingly hopeless deficit and debt situation.”

Mr. Reid, leader of the least productive Senate session ever, claims his changes will make the body more “efficient.” For the first time in history, the Democratic leader wants to change the rules with a simple majority vote instead of the currently required two-thirds supermajority. This is referred to as the “nuclear option” because it empowers the majority to alter at whim and without bipartisan support the way the Senate runs.

A population of 311 million people and three or four people stand in the way of this Country recovering from the recession, and becoming strong again and Harry Reid is one of them.

I’m betting dingy Harry thinks that America is lost and will vote communist from now until forever. That’s why it doesn’t matter. It’s no short sighted, it’s what they feel is reality.

This is Reid's “Executive Order” type grab of total power, just as Hussein uses Executive Orders for his total power.

Reid will do this as he has no honor, just like Hussein. This is the final nail to destroy the country as Hussein can't be stopped if this happens.

I doubt there will ever be another Republican majority Senate.

Our prepping is a direct slap in the face of Hussein/Reid. The government used our money to build a bunker for major preps to save the life of Hussein and Reid - are you as important as they are? Sure you are - use your own money to prep. Fight back - save your own life. Got water and food stored?

Now that push is getting to shove, maybe the house will exercise it's authority over the country's purse.

Over the fiscal cliff, no budget extensions, no increase in national debt. Shut the government down. The house needs to fulfill it's constitutional duties while we still have a country.

But the Republicans must be very clear to the Democrats, and mean it, that if they vote with Harry on this, then the Republicans *will* do the same when they control the senate.

AND...the repubs must ask the parrying question...whatcha gonna gimme? quid pro quo.

Harry Reid notwithstanding, I favor getting rid of the filibuster.

Without it, ObamaCare can be ended by simple majorities in both the House and Senate the next time we have the presidency!

I hope he goes there!

There's another long wait where a train don't come.

I'm not holding my breath for anything good to come out of that fetid swampland called D.C.

I was going through my collection of CDs earlier this month and came across a song with the words: “A hand full of Senators can prevent legislation..”

This was from the 60s and it was singing about Democratic Senators and their use of the filibuster to prevent civil rights legislation.

Guess Dirty Harry Reid has forgotten that piece of history - when the Democratic Senators were on the wrong side of history and fought tooth and nail to stay there

Over the fiscal cliff...

This could actually give the big O the upper hand in the long run. Historically, economies recover about 18 months on average after a crash, providing, that the gov-mint does not screw it up. A crash, which is overdue, will be devastating, but ulimately recoverable.

They are preparing for ‘Game Over’

Yep. It’s part of that fundamental transformation crap. We are being assaulted and will continue to be assaulted on many fronts.

The radical left will not just walk away from the power they have amassed.
