I disagree. The left prefers to label their opponents as mentally ill so when they control the country they can put their opponents in mental hospitals. Just the same as the Soviets did when they ruled Russia and half of the world.

I'm not so sure. To me - phobia means fear of something. And to that end; I've always been homophobic. Not that I'm afraid of any fag making a pass at me, but I fear their plans, goals and objectives which are destroying our culture and our country.

Finally there is something Orwellian about describing political or religious views in terms usually employed for mental illness. It skips past discussing what people believe or do to claiming intimate knowledge of their motives and passing judgement on their sanity. It’s reasonable for the AP to opt out of such heavily politicized and inaccurate language that claims to report on the state of mental health, rather than the state of events.

It should be remembered that, in the last decades of the Soviet Union, persons objecting to the state's oppression of human freedoms and democracy were often diagnosed as mentally ill and sent to asylums for "treatment." This action was considered perfectly logical in Communist theory as only the insane would object to the perfected communist state. Under the same reasoning, conscientious objection to military service was also disallowed as the perfected state must be defended.

Needless to say, the Left's use of mental illness designation for any position or person they find troublesome is just an ad hominim attack in the same vicious mindset that the Communists used (and, IIRC, are still using to a limited extent in China). The Left simply lacks the coercive power to implement their agenda. (Although it seems they tried recently went a veteran in southeastern Virginia was apprehended and sent (for a brief period) to a mental treatment facility because of some very mildly objectionable (to Obama supporters) Facebook postings (song lyrics). Fortunately, the supervising magistrate eventually saw things differently and ordered his release after a few days.)
