What's driving gun sales spike? Federal law, women and zombies

What's driving gun sales spike? Federal law, women and zombies.

BELLEVUE – Karen Manley stood strong in the range Tuesday afternoon, her right hand firmly gripping a handgun.

“There had been a rash of home invasions,” said Manley, of Brier. “If anything happens, I could defend myself, my kids, and my home.’

Women are just one factor behind a recent spree of gun sales, locally, and across the nation, according to gun lobbyists.

The FBI reported Tuesday that it received 154,873 buyer background check requests on Black Friday, up roughly 20 percent over the same day last year. The requests were so heavy, FBI call centers suffered two outages trying to keep up with demand.

“We were probably 30-35% ahead of what we expected (on Friday),” said Wade Gaughran of Wade’s Eastside Guns in Bellevue, who acknowledges sales have doubled since Election Day, and concerns over changes in the federal gun policy are prompting the spike. “I think (Obama’s) going to try and make something happen this time.”

“There is a concern in the United States about what is going to happen with firearms laws under the second Obama administration,” said Dave Workman, of the Second Amendment Foundation, who also cites economic conditions as a driver.

Workman also says a zombie fad is helping push sales too.

“There is quite a following on this zombie target shooting - the idea of shooting targets that look like weird strange zombie people instead of human silhouette targets or junk targets appeal to a lot of people,” said Workman.

But the President of Washington Ceasefire is not laughing about that explanation.

“It’s the usual paranoia, that Obama is the Boogeyman,” said Ralph Fascitelli, Board President of Washington Ceasefire. “Guns rights groups want to increase anxiety, membership. It’s all about money.”

"But the President of Washington Ceasefire is not laughing about that explanation."

Imagine that.

“It’s the usual paranoia, that Obama is the Boogeyman,” said Ralph Fascitelli, Fascistelli.

There, fixed it.

Terry,
I purchased a Sig Sauer Pro 250 9mm semi auto. I have small arthritic hands and this piece fit my hands and I find does not have a lot of recoil. $399 at Academy Sports, or at least it was when I purchased 6 months ago. I highly recommend. It comes with a 15 round mag and one in the pipe makes it 16. Christmas is coming and would make a great gift for your lady!

Metalurgist said that the cylinder was grossly under-designed. Apparently a cheap alloy was used.

For a woman...check out the Browning Buckmark Micro semi-auto pistol (if you can get your hands on one, it will be about $350)...or for stopping power without too big of a kick, the Ruger SP101 327 Federal Magnum revolver (yes that is a 327 not 357..)...about $500...the 327 also takes 32...best 327 ammo is a Low Recoil version that would be woman friendly also...ammo will not be cheap for the 327 like it will be relative to the 22 of course.

Did I not read in these columns just yesterday about a prospective Obama Exec Order that would criminalize possession of semi-automatic firearms? And is not my .357 revolver a semi-automatic firearm?

seems the virginia study released this week or last disproves the theory of more guns must mean more violence.

besides if that were true we could guarantee a decrease in violence by disarming all federal officers and law enforcement folks, and the military too.

a great gun for you and her wouild be ruger’s LCR. she could get the 38+p, and you could get that one or the .357 rated one, which can also fire 38+p.

***** “And is not my .357 revolver a semi-automatic firearm?” *****

Single Action or Double Action? (like they would know the difference)

Play their game ... “neither... it doesn’t do anything till I pull the trigger, so I guess it is a “No Action” firearm”

TT
