“Deputies said the homeowner carries a concealed handgun license.”

These lines always bother me. Many people unfamiliar with firearm laws think a license is required to own a firearm.

A permit is not pertinent to the story.

Since he got the gun out if the car, the permit might be relevant.

It is. If he’s driving around with a gun in the car (assuming loaded and in reach - which was likely the case here), he better have a concealed - at least here in Texas.

But I agree - most of the time they bring this up it is a homeowner watching TV that gets his gun out when the bad guys break in.
