Are ‘isolation rooms’ in some school districts going too far?

"Parents need to GO to the school and spend a day in the classroom, unannounced"

My teacher friend would welcome any adult joining the classroom.

The school doesn't have a PTA because no parents show up.

Parent Conferences are attended by virtually no parents.

Report Cards withheld for various infractions are never picked up by the parents.

Sick or violent children's parents cannot be contacted by phone because they sold the phone.

Kids come to class with diagnosed and untreated cases of Whooping Cough.

But hey! There are standardized tests so frequently that there's little time for actual teaching anyway!

That has been done. thanks, but good to tell all that don't know this.

My grandson has MANY friends in and out of school, there is not one person I know that does not love him. Small town, and when I take him somewhere, first thing they say is HI Nathan!....Me, I'm puzzled, how you know him? They give him things in a store, etc. Super kid.

If there was ever a time he was put in some PADDED CELL, all HELL would break out with his parents, don't want that to happen, would not be pretty.

For the autistic children, it is a little more difficult. I had one in Sunday School, holy terror. They demand and can be very mean. He slapped my grandson once before I could stop him. That boy knew what he was doing, and called my grandson out into another room, not to be seen. Gullible Nathan went cause he thought he wanted to play. The minute I saw Nathan run after him, I ran too as I knew something was up, got there just in time to see that boy slap him hard across the face.

Not sure how to handle those kids. Still don't think cells are the answer. Sometimes I want to think that more parental discipline is the answer, not sure.

How is it that Autism is such a NEW condition, when I was young misbehavior met up with a razor strap. Ain't misbehaving any more.

It sounds like you know your way around an even worse system.

Where my friend teaches, nobody bothers to ask who is on free lunch anymore. All of them are.

The 7-11 at the corner says, “EBT Accepted Here”

The school is surrounded by “Low Income Housing”; new houses that were well built, many of which are almost destroyed within 5 years of occupancy.

We bike through those neighborhoods. My friend is VERY liberal, and like Jesse Jackson, she just won’t go down a street that has young black males on it. She’ll turn left, right, or turn around to get out of there. It’s purely a racial profiling thing: She can’t risk being around young black men.

GOOD parents are the answer. Schools can't win over a bad, unstable home life.

what is wrong with the corner? with a chair in the hallway?

Because "special needs"' definition has been expanded to include little bastards who should more properly be labeled "violent juvenile delinquents".

And of course, most of them are bastards with fecal matter for "parents".

Next thing you’ll tell me is violent criminals (even those on death row) in prison will soon be allowed to attend college or university under the Affordable Schools Act.

“Why are parents allowing this crap?”

I can help here.

So they can buy the 60” plasma, the Lexus, and keep up with the Jones’s by having that large house.

Any DECENT parent would NEVER send their kids to public school, even if it means having to live in an apartment for a while.

In an urban school “parents” is a nebulis term. Want to send a kid home? What if both parents are on welfare have three cell phones each, are seldom home and there is no home number that works. How do you get in touch with someone? Or what if dear ole Mom gave you a non-existent on her child (pronunced cher) ID card?

“That’s what I’ve been doing the last 10 years. The paperwork is unbelievable - and you’d BETTER be making educational progress and have documentation to back that up.”

The aid does massive write ups of each incident. One problem is once the kid is in the cage, they scream, lick and yell obsenities, which disrupts the otdhers in the class - gets them going too.

The closest I've come is a 17 yr old out on parole for attempted murder.
