Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has sent an envoy with a private message for his Venezuelan counterpart Hugo Chavez, as the latter revealed he was to return to Cuba to continue treatment for cancer.

Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Al Mokdad did not reveal the subject of Mr Assad's message to Mr Chavez during a press conference in Caracas, saying only that it deals with relations between the two leaders.

Mr Chavez has been a vocal defender of Mr Assad, and has accused the US and its allies of provoking violence during the conflict in Syria to try to topple its government.

Mr Chavez, who had claimed in July that he was cancer free, disclosed his travel plans in a letter to the National Assembly that left unclear whether he had suffered a relapse.

The 58-year-old, who has been in power since 1999 and gained international prominence as an anti-American firebrand, appeared weakened and subdued during the presidential campaign but he won a third term that extends to 2018.

In the letter, Mr Chavez said he had been zealously following a "complementary treatment plan" ordered by his doctors, despite the intense re-election campaign.

Soon to be the 3 legged trifecta to near the crossing of the River Styx—that being Castro, Chavez and Assad. Question is will unworthy Assad get his 72 virgins and if so will he share them with the other 2 father/son latin commie dictators? Are there any cigars for Fidel on the other side or just heat and smoke?
