The U.S. birth rate plunged last year to a record low, with the decline being led by immigrant women hit hard by the recession, according to a study released Thursday by the Pew Research Center.
The overall birth rate declined by 8 percent between 2007 and 2010, with a decrease of 6 percent among U.S.-born women and 14 percent among foreign-born women. The decline for Mexican immigrant women was more extreme, at 23 percent. The overall birth rate is now at its lowest since 1920, the earliest year with reliable records.

So... who is going to be paying for your social security benefits??
Certainly not the crop of welfare Reina’s coming across the border.
Could it be that potential parents are seeing a future that they don’t want to be raising children in?
I don’t buy this for a minute. Since when do poor women care about not being able to afford babies and since when do poor men care about taking care of the women they knock up?
Maybe they’re just in a hurry to get free contraception just because it is free. These babies are the future Obama voters. The Democrat Party needs them to keep popping out as many ignorant parasites as possible.
Now if “responsible” Americans are having less children because the Obama economy has crippled their ability to provide, that might be one thing but, even then, I have my doubts.
“So... who is going to be paying for your social security benefits??”
That was my first thought too. But then my wife pointed out that the youngsters are being raised to suck on the government teat rather than work anyway, so the whole thing’s a moot point, i.e., we’re done one way or the other.
A low birth rate is a sign of no confidence in the future. Between couples who decide to practice contraception and not have any children and people whose stress level prevents them from conceiving, the perception of a miserable future always suppresses the birthrate.
Catholics, Orthodox Jews, Mormons and Muslims, but they might vote things a little differently than currently expected.
The money saved there can be shifted to Soc Sec and Medicare.
That will work for a while, but then we'll need robots.
But, like us Americans, they work hard and are putting off childbearing to enjoy the good life.
Like America, the 'takers' seem to have higher brith rates in Singapore[malays], as opposed to the Chinese and Indians.
“The money saved there...”
hahahaha... do you think that’ll happen?
I think your comment is right on the target. If I were a young, married man (instead of an old, married man) and I knew what I know now, there is no way that I would produce a child to grow up in this rapidly declining country. Maybe others are optimistic, but I'm not.
The Welfare State must collapse!
The abortion rate has decreased, as well. So has the teen pregnancy rate.
Despite the media’s rosy portrayal of the economy, it is bad enough to drive people to avoid pregnancy.
Since white birth rates barely declined while minorities plunged, this will change the outlook for the racial makeup of society in the future. So, the arrival of a white minority in 2050 or whenever may not occur.
Birth rates have plummeted in Latin America, too, which should relieve pressure on those populations to move north.
Could we be seeing a slowing of the Hispanic surge? If this keeps up — combined with Hispanics moving back to Mexico, etc., it could lead to a more stable demographic outlook.
The Democrats must be screaming and pulling out their hair to read this.
You may be right but even if Whites are still the majority by 2050, it'll be a slight one.
Hey, I did my part! I had my 4th baby last year.
