Read the article again. She does not get something for nothing. That is NOT how this kind of center works.

I have been volunteering at Shared Pregnancy here in Lansing for years, and apart from food baskets at Christmas and Easter the clients get absolutely no freebies. They earn points by attending parenting classes, which cover everything from health and nutrition to early learning, or they earn points by volunteering at the center. The points are accumulated and then cashed in when the client wants/needs something. A bag of clothing is usually 1-2 points--something like a crib is 10. Figure that it takes an hour to earn a point--how much is 10 hours of work at minimum wage?

Enough to buy a crib.

As opposed to earning dollars by working at a job? Do they have to pass a test or can they just sit there?
