Liberals blast Susan Rice's 'outrageous' investments in Canadian pipeline firm By Julian Pecquet - 11/30/12 10:48 AM ET
A liberal group launched an online petition Friday demanding that potential secretary of State nominee Susan Rice divest herself of every dollar of stock in the Canadian company seeking approval for the controversial Keystone XL oil pipeline to the Gulf Coast.
The U.S. ambassador to the United Nations owns between $300,000 and $600,000 in TransCanada Corp. stock, according to her financial disclosure forms. The pipeline needs approval from the State Department before it can go forward.
The revelation has opened Rice up to criticism from environmentalists at a time when several Senate Republicans have vowed to oppose her because of her early statements about the Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi.
Green groups are pressing the White House to require that any nominee for the position divest themselves of any stock in TransCanada or other oil sands companies.
It's indefensible that Rice has millions of dollars invested in oil companies and banks that will make huge profits if the State Department gives approval to the XL pipeline, reads the petition from RootsAction.org, which claims almost 200,000 members.
As a high-ranking administration official and a potential replacement for Hillary Clinton early next year to run the State Department Susan Rice shouldn't have any stake in corporations that are doing all they can to plunder tar sands in Canada and send carbon emissions soaring even faster.
Rice is still seen as the favorite to get the nomination because of her close ties to President Obama since serving as his senior foreign policy adviser during the 2008 campaign.
She failed to change the minds of her Republican opponents during a two-day visit to Capitol Hill this week, however, setting up a bitter confirmation fight if Obama nominates her to replace Hillary Clinton.
Naw...She’ll become an advisor to Valerie.
“”John Kerry? Maybe, but right now Id expect someone even worse.””
Worse would be Samantha Power - who stays beneath the radar but wields a lot of power with bozo - she’s the wife of Cass Sunstein..
It’s scary when members of the progressive left are more in touch with reality than the average Democrat on the street.
When I saw the ping, I thought John had sent one of his pieces out early!!!
This is mental illness.
Oil Spill in the WH - send in the cleanup crews.
These people are Sorosians. Great wealth is not a problem to them.
And the concerns of the mentally ill who support them is only a problem to the propagandists they employ to run interference for them.
For example, using her position to aid Soros’s investment portfolio is not corruption, its her reason for being in office. If she can help her own, its only corruption if she gets caught and the paid propagandists can’t drown it out with attacks on Bush.
Does anyone think O isn’t going to retire from office with a few hundred million in his various accounts? With the Clintons as a model, they left their decades of life on the public payroll with several hundred millions that we know about, and the paid press have completely accepted their explanations of where it all came from without any detectable curiousity. O will do the same with the same results.
O’s tossing her under the bus.
I hear that Rice’s husband works for an oil company and that is part of the reason that she was picked to go and lie to the public. The Obama administration knew that she could not withstand another nomination battle and that even the Democrat greens were wouldn’t support her.
what a rookie. Even nancy pelosi knows the way this is done, is to have your husband own the stocks, THEN you direct government contracts to the company. sheesh.
Rice’s background is so checkered that there is actually no way she was even competent for this position as UN Ambassador. She did exactly the same thing at the time of the Kenya bombings (when she was theoretically responsible for that area of Africa under Clinton) that she’s doing now - deny and obfuscate.
Although she tries hard to protect AQ, I don’t think her parents are Muslims. But she’s from a very well off and well-connected family. Her parents were upper level academics very involved in US policy, and her father was one of the Governors of the Federal Reserve. I’m not sure they’re both black - or if they were, they were extremely light-skinned, because Rice barely looks black.
However, she staked her claim in progressivist politics, and while she was not herself smart or aggressive enough to get ahead, she, like the supposed feminist icon Hillary, has dedicated her life to protecting these important progressivist males (Bill Clinton and Obama). She really doesn’t care if he throws her under the bus.
LOL @ “plundering the tar sands”
Yep. Obama and Hillary are burning down the Middle East to make money for themselves through Soros. And our stupid media continues to be bought.
It's not going to be Romney, is it?
“”Or worse, they could try to legitimize the current power behind Obama’s throne. “” - Good old Valerie!!!
Perish the thought!!! I’m pretty sure it will be another female! And that’s written by a female.....
“”because Rice barely looks black.””
I don’t think bozo likes REALLY black people - they are all a SHADE of black!!!
FOX reported that she and her husband are worth $20 million!!! He doesn’t mind finding jobs for the 1%’ers, does he?
I read that she alone is worth $32 million. I don’t know who her husband is or what he does, but I’d bet the both of them are worth a lot more than that.
This is the woman that Obama was presenting as a poor, harrassed, picked-upon little black girl who couldn’t possibly be expected to know if what she was saying made any sense whatsoever...heck, maybe she should redo her hair in pickaninny braids and dance out onto the stage in her rags. That’s Obama’s image of American blacks (because, of course, he’s not one of them).
Eat the rich!
It’s starting to make sense now.
