I don’t see anything particularly damning in any of this. Why shouldn’t the Vatican be reluctant to let the Irish bishops control the investigation...since the abuse happened under their watch and, iirc, one of them was even involved and had gotten one of his young girlfriends pregnant? I wouldn’t trust them either.

And the Vatican was perfectly right on Turkey and Islam.

I think the fear is more that false data can be maliciously “ released,” something that genuinely is a threat,and it’s important to protect the integrity of documents.
