Obama urges Russia to work with U.S. to extend arms pact

(Reuters) - President Barack Obama urged Russia on Tuesday to work with the United States to "update" a decades-old agreement on dismantling nuclear and chemicals weapons that is set to expire in mid-2013.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said in October that Moscow intended to end the 1992 agreement, the latest sign that the much-vaunted "reset" in relations between the Cold War-era foes may be running out of steam.

Obama, attending a conference of nuclear anti-proliferation experts at the National War College in Washington, took note of Moscow's complaints and expressed optimism the pact would be extended.

"Russia has said that our current agreement hasn't kept pace with the changing relationship between our countries," Obama said. "To which we say, 'let's update it.'"

Well, the election is over and he is much more flexible now. Why, I’ll bet he can even bend all the way over.

If the US will reduce its strategic thermonuclear arsenal to 300 warheads, Russia's agrees to keep anti missile launching sites out of Western Europe.

Obama better jump on this one before Russia loses patience and demands he shine Putin's shoes,...again.

This is one of the true awful things that the uninformed voter has no clue about. He's already unilaterally announced our entire nuclear weapon stockpile #’s. Russia was supposed to do the same back, but never did. They've hardly EVER done anything agreed to on weapons. However, his next plan is to keep reducing so that Russia or even China has a ‘fair chance’ at a first strike.

The democrat voter could care less if they die, we all know this. But the more important thing is, they don't care if you die too.

Contrary to popular belief, fewer warheads is not necessarily better. You can never un-invent nuclear weapons, and put the genie back in the bottle. The only question is where you want to be in the food chain.

300 warheads is no longer a “Deterrent”.

The ONLY thing that accomplishes is to make thermonuclear war “Thinkable”.

Real problem is growing availability of nuclear weapon. One thing if only USA and USSR had it, another thing if it is owned by some kind of Asscrapistan.
And it looks like muslims will have it in numbers in a decade or so (just look at Caliphate of ME&Africa in making with both technology and economic power.)
