Gold or silver might be useful to pay your property taxes.

Excellent post ! Going crazy about preps will drive you crazy ,having a well stocked pantry is not crazy just like having a good set of tools is just common sense.

Don’t go nuts folks but have the basics of common sense supplies cause it just makes sense.

One of the causes of the lib’s being sore winners is that they have not been given permission /Obama’s blessing to have a reenactment of Kristalnacht against Republicans & especially TEA party /Conservatives. This is a truly frustrating thing for liberals who absolutely despise anyone who has not drank the kool-aid .

Did they ever give any explanation why they wouldn’t allow people to exit off the highway?

Yes you can buy a firearm from another private citizen who is willing to sell to you. No stores generally have to log down what you buy as ammo unless you are trying to buy explosive ordnance.

Pay attention!

The laws regarding private sales of guns vary state-by-state, and may in some cases involve federal laws as well.

Be careful and talk to someone in the know!

The penalties for breaking whatever laws are on the books also vary state by state, but in some cases, can be EXTREMELY SEVERE!

Ten years in the slammer, that sort of thing.

Be very, very careful!

I can’t see that type having the wherewithal to walk out of the city to where the food is.

I seriously doubt a lot of them would even know where the food is. They think it gets made in the grocery store.

But, as for how far they'd walk, this last election we had people walking across town and back, in the snow, because they didn't know which polling place was theirs. That suprised me.

The last thing I want to watch is a zombie, horror, or end of the world movie. In times like these, it hits too close to home. When everything is going along all good, that’s when I crave a little something to scare the bejeez out of me.

We have always been a little bit prepper, having been camping enthusiasts for a while, and living where tornadoes and power outages strike without warning and necessitate planning for several weeks without some of the modern conveniences.

I started prepping food more earnestly after the 2008 market crash and spike in fuel prices anticipating that food would soon follow. In 2009, we expanded our gardening hobby to be prepared to be more self sufficient.

Since then we have given a lot of thought and reading into how to be self sustaining for ourselves and family on the lots we currently own.

My main concern is the mortgage. No way to get it paid off as soon as we need to. We inherited a house that needs some repair work, but it is at the edge of the city limits of a fairly large metro area, and not a desirable area.

Not much market for it now, but a few years from now it will likely be rezoned commercial and part of the yard claimed for widening the access road to the development currently being built.

We have been doing repair work as we can, thinking that we might be able to rent in down the road. It would be nice to have a crystal ball to know for sure what is going to happen when.

We also have 20 acres free and clear about 10 miles from our current home, so I guess we could cut down some trees and make a little log cabin in the 20 acre woods. It has a creek that runs year round. Kinda isolated, a the few neigbors are a mixed bag though.

The wrong house is free and clear, but I have 2 years of cash mortgage payments in the bank, so maybe it will work out.

“Forgot maps because expect GPS and internet access to be non-existent.”

No. ViaSat can be tapped into by a portable Exede high-capacity satellite system. You can set up command and control bases, receive live video and image feeds and establish two-way information links so that teams can coordinate.

I’m not an expert in satellite broadband communications, but these systems exist.

The average prepper on a budget who spends mainly on ammo and food stores not so much.

Need to be prepared for absolutely no electricity when the government cuts power to control the clingers.

The stores here only check id for ammo. You buy in a store or from a dealer at a gun show they still have to do paper work. Purchase from a private citizen and he may give you a receipt but no paper work is filed, at least down here.

“That is their plan and you know they all have their escape plans in place.”

You’re right. They, meaning each one individually, have plans to run like rats off a sinking ship.

Nobody can honestly believe that a bunch of selfish, self-centered leftists are going to risk their lives to save obuma. That would take qualities like honor and duty, something completely alien to the criminal fascist syndicate. If SHTF, it will be every leftist for himself. King Buckwheat will be thrown to the mobs so that the functionaries will have time to escape.

A mob of 100,000 obuma zombies attacking Washington will empty the place.

“Did they ever give any explanation why they wouldn’t allow people to exit off the highway?”

I didn’t hear anything about it. Maybe whoever was running the “show” didn’t want these thousands exiting into towns and screwing up city plans. It just seemed cruel to me.

She, her mother, and her daughter headed north on 146 then west on 105 to 45 then north on 45 to Dallas.

Well, we had the thousands from Galveston/Houston, then 105 coming from the east meets 45 in the middle of Conroe, so add those thousands to the ones already on the road. Your friend was in that 105 group.

That was a bad thing your friend went through and I'm sorry it happened. They are still alive and won't get themselves in that situation again unless they are prepared.

“We also have 20 acres free and clear about 10 miles from our current home, so I guess we could cut down some trees and make a little log cabin in the 20 acre woods.”

Do you know how to fell an 80-foot tall tree? Logging is one of the most dangerous occupations.

Do you know how to size logs to build a cabin? Do you have enough standing timber of the proper size to build a cabin? Can you measure estimated board feet from the base of a tree? Do you have the proper tools like adzes, draw knives, cross cut saws, block and tackle and axes? Are you familiar with different tree species? Have you ever built a house?

Building a log cabin is much more difficult than the commies at Mother Earth make it sound.

Truly, you are better off finding a small community of Christians who believe in the Constitution and live there rather than trying to hack a life out of the bush if you’ve never done it.

When TSHF is not a comicbook or movie.

Well now, It was really kind of a joke, but yeh as long as Hubby is still around we could do it and be fine. I designed our home, and he built it. I designed our daughter's home and he built it.

He cuts big trees all the time and splits them into firewood. He knows how to build a cabin, and has the tools to do it. Heck he could even just make a basement, and put a roof on it, if we were to stock pile the cement and and concrete blocks.

He sets basement forms all the time, so if the local cement plant was still open we could do it that way instead of blocks. We have a couple of good friends who own the equipment to dig the basement, he helped them both build their houses and their kids houses.

We have an 1800 sq. foot house with a full basement. It is all brick, and he laid every single one by his self with the help of number one daughter who carried hod.

My man has skills! And we are both independent-not likely to be beggin’ at someone elses’s house if there is any way to avoid it.
