FWIW... When my wife is home by herself, we agreed that she will NOT open the door to any door-to-door salesperson. She will either ignore them, tell them to FO, and/or call the police. She also knows where the 12 guage is if needed.
We can sorta feel sorry for honest persons trying to make a buck, but we are absolutely not going to allow her to take on any unnecessary risk.
I go out on the deck which overlooks the front door and ask “Why in the wild, wild world of sports are you bothering me?” and “What part of ‘No Soliciting’ don’t you understand? It was at the bottom of the hill. How could you miss it?”

Scam 2: Driveway sealing. It’s black paint.
Scam 3: Roof repair. They’ll go on your roof and knock a hole in it. Then it is really going to cost you.
