Coburn wants decisions by judge rather than VA for impaired troops
A major defense-spending bill hit an unexpected bump on its journey through the U.S. Senate over an amendment on veterans gun rights, which devolved into a heated floor debate and foreshadows a potential battle over Democrats vows to tweak the filibuster rules in the clubby, traditionally collegial body. Sen. Tom Coburn, Oklahoma Republican, wants veterans who have been deemed mentally incompetent to have their cases adjudicated by a judge rather than the Department of Veterans Affairs, as happens currently and argued that veterans who simply cannot support themselves financially are needlessly given the label and, as such, cannot buy or possess firearms.

The exact reason I Decline to see the mental health “professional” when I go in for my annual eval at the VA. Who knows? In the not too distant Democrat ran future, declining such “evals” may trigger an automatic denial of firearm purchasing rights, and may spring forth a visit from local law enforcement to confiscate what is yours.
A very high percentage of the VA mental health professionals are bleeding heart liberals and are against guns.
In the Marines they refer to psychiatrists as “magicians” as they make people disappear! Your attitude is shared by the majority. Sad, but true. And is based upon reality.
Have been suspicious for awhile this was going to happen.
‘They’ started giving out PTSD status like it was an award and I kind of figured it would be time to pay the piper in regards to gun ownership and a ‘mental disability’.
When I was ‘retiring’ from drinking in 1990, I was court ordered to attend a “Post Graduate” ASAP program (I was 2.9, so in ‘their’ eyes should have been dead).
I figured with my attitude and being employed with a home, steady income etc, I would never get released from the program as long as ‘they’ could bleed money from me.
I went to VA and enrolled in one of their courses and one of the first things the VA rep tried to do was ‘blame’ my alcohol use on ‘The Navy’ and figured I could get into the PTSD program... I wanted no parts of that and, if not mistaken, he all but offered a slot with VA, with ‘compensation’ for Service Related PTSD.
I work with a non-profit for veterans and families and I’ve seen an uptick in the VA questioning competency lately.
The Soviet Union imprisoned countless thousands of dissenters simply by having them declared insane.
So McCain argued against Coburn’s Amendment, until Coburn “backed off.” Doesn’t surprise me at all. Readers, read the article.
During civilian transitioning classes in the Army and later job hunting at Veterans fairs, I was hounded by black Obama types to demand money and sign up for all kinds of disability and mental disability benefits. I kept telling them the army kept me fit and I never felt so young. They kept telling me “no no, you are a veteran, you can have this free money and you need to apply”
It was creepy to the point I flatly refused smelling something really wrong in this. Now we know.
Besides, I got irked with the usage of PTSD in hollywood flicks to paint veterans as retards and every liberal cop or lawyer as being so sane. The writer’s guild is way to the left.
I knew this was a bunch of horse crap.
