In a rare public policy speech, former President George W. Bush said Tuesday that immigrants both help the American economy and “invigorate our soul.”
“America is a nation of immigrants. Immigrants have helped build a country that we have became, and immigrants can help build a dynamic tomorrow. Not only do immigrants help build our economy, they invigorate our soul,” Bush said.

Lol, you can't be serious. He damned well had a lot to say about illegal immigrants all during his second term, and in 2006 and 2007 he used every trick is the book trying to force amnesty for 15 to 20 million on the nation.
And, he was positively giddy when the Dims took control of the House in 2006, just couldn't wait to get to work with Pelosi to pass his amnesty bill.

OK. I gotta chime in. I’m one of those people who really liked George Bush, admired his determination to stick to his positions on the WOT, loved his support for our military and was thrilled with his Supreme Court nominees (after Myers). Well, how’d that turn out? Not so good. Even with his determination, he failed to bring the full power of American military on Iraq, Afghanistan and Iran. Wasted a lot of our most precious young men and women by fighting with one hand tied behind their backs.
On top of that, he ended up being a big spender who couldn’t find his veto pen if it was stuck in his forehead. Dubai ports deal. Prescription drug plans. No Child Left Behind. That Myers pick. Comprehensive Immigration reform (amnesty).
And through it all, with the most vicious press and political opposition, he was playing Mr. Rogers in the role of president, never hitting back, never defending policies, never correcting the constant lies and distortions. For comparison purposes, consider that they made Alberto Gonzalez’s firing of a few US Attorneys into a major constitutional crisis, while Bengazhi and Fast and Furious and Solyndra Gate get a collective yawn. But he did nothing.
When it was all said and done, he left office and went into a quiet dignified retirement, following the tradition of former presidents who keep their mouths shut (unlike certain rapists from Arkansas and hemorrhoids from Georgia I could name). Fine. So when does he finally decide to speak out? When our country is being savaged by the Kenyan Marxist? When our ambassador is being left to die in some Libyan hell-hole? When the Constitution is being used for toilet paper in the form of legislation through executive orders, rule by czars and non-recess recess appointments? Repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell? No. It has to be immigration. One of the sorest spots in his disappointing presidency is the only thing he will speak out about. Sheesh.
Oh, did I mention, the Roberts nomination actually didn’t turn out that well. Count me among the folks who think W’s legacy is not going to improve with age. Or at least it sure doesn’t look like it.
100% correct. How can any conservative think immigration is good if immigrants are going to vote 73% for Democrats. This 73% is not changing in the foreseeable future. The only way to tame immigration is to put a fence on the Mexican border, stop visa overstayers via computerizing that system. Then make our immigration skills and education based, not family reunification based
America might have been the vaunted “nation of immigrants” at one time. But something happened right around 1965 with the Kennedy Immigration bill that shifted the quotas to the third world and with the advent of multiculturalism, which shattered the melting pot ideal. No longer would assimilation into the unique American culture be encouraged as part of naturalization. Just the opposite became the rule: each “community” of immigrants must fiercely cling to their foreign culture. Resentment toward American exceptionalism and accomplishments at home and abroad are nurtured to the utmost. The very concept of adopting the native culture and ideals as your own is to be abhorred.
So what do we have now? Not a nation of immigrants, but a nation of strangers, a nation of churlish, balkanized groups tearing the fabric of the country apart. Our great nation of immigrants is gone. George W. Bush may be the last person to find out.
And? Name one country where the people just popped up out of the ground?
Dear Mr. W. Bush, private citizen,
You, sir, did a fine job in pursuing the War On Terror against our foreign enemies in other countries. But in the process, you needlessly turned our nation into a police state, turning your War On Terror into a War On Americans.
While you deserve credit for the former action, the latter action ruined your presidency, invalidated much of our constitution, and will take many years to undo. We did not need this, nor want this, but you brought it about, and for this action, we humbly request that you and your family never again involve yourselves with our government in any capacity.
We truly look forward to ending what you began, demilitarizing our nation, eliminating the vast majority of federal police, intelligence agents, and TSA bullies and gropers, that you added, and returning our freedom and liberty to the people.
If the chaos of liberty is so disturbing to you, good. May you spend endless nights awake, fretting that people are doing what they want to do without surveillance, dossiers being collected, or the voyeuristic and perverse control of government riding herd over them.
Everybody likes immigrants - no one has to sermonize about liking immigrants - we don’t like ILLEGAL immigrants, like we don’t like bank robbers and child molesters - ‘pubs only play into the hands of the ‘rats when they give speeches like this which makes it sound as though the party really has a problem with all immigrants......

The kind of immigration we’ve had since 1965 we can do without, even if it’s “legal.” Unless you’re interested in a permanent lock for Dhimms and a welfare/entitlement state that will turn us into Greece X 10.
Yep, I’m anti-about 98% of the immigrants we’re importing, and I don’t care if Jorge thinks I’m insensitive or not. At least I can count; apparently Jorge can’t.
My own conspiracy theory is that the Bush family consists of moles sent by the Dems to destroy the Republican Party from within. Looks like they did a pretty good job.
