Bob Costas said he made a “mistake,” violating his own rule of not trying to compress a nuanced topic into small bit of air time, with his controversial halftime commentary Sunday night on the murder-suicide committed by Jovan Belcher of the Kansas City Chiefs the day before.

“My mistake is I left it open for too much miscommunication,” Costas said in a lengthy interview on “The Dan Patrick Show.” The 90-second weekly spot, he said, doesn’t offer enough time in which to adequately discuss the issue of “the football culture, the gun culture, domestic violence.”

I bet it doesn’t bother him one bit that his bodyguard carries.... It’s OK for him, but not for us.

Wish someone in the Sports Media would mention that if gays would stop using their “guns” inappropriately, a lot of them would still be alive and those alive would live longer.

NBC agrees.

I think the NBC upper management realized what a HUGE mistake it was for Costas to make such remarks--remarks that caused viewers to complain to NBC's advertisers, which in turn complained to NBC.

Costas and NBC are in damage control mode. All hands to the pumps.

Keep the pressure on. No mercy. Ridicule, comment, Twitter, Facebook ... until he’s GONE.

This was no mistake.

It was not a spur of the moment, unrehearsed rant either.

Watch the video—he’s reading something, as in a prepared cue card.

And then voila, the next day, it is THE talk of the day, on every network.Everywhere. Some idiot sport commentator’s “rant” on guns. Riiiiight.

Can you say “planned faux media event”? I knew you could.
