A writer’s epiphany: Guns save lives(PA)

Jeffrey Goldberg, The Atlantic’s national correspondent, has just had a moment of semi-clarity: “The ideology of gun-ownership absolutism doesn’t appeal” to him, yet he’s now “sympathetic to the idea of armed self-defense, because it does often work ... .”

He writes thus in his lengthy piece, “The Case for More Guns (And More Gun Control).” He pines for tighter restrictions on gun purchases, yet acknowledges that armed, law-abiding citizens do discourage crime.

Admitting liberals’ vision of a no-guns America is unrealistic, he notes the estimated 280 million to 300 million guns in private hands and a 2011 Gallup poll showing 47 percent of adults keep at least one gun and only 26 percent favor banning handguns.

Mr. Goldberg even acknowledges that after passage of concealed-carry laws, Ohio’s firearms crime rate “remained steady” and crime rates in Florida and Colorado dropped.

We are winning, but the full blown support of the MSM for President Obama may mean we lose the Republic.

The Republic has been gone for decades my friend. All that remains is the inevitable consequences of democracy.

“Still, Goldberg’s half-epiphany is a sign that common — and constitutional — sense might be gaining in the debate over guns, potentially providing common ground for shaping a safer, freer America.”

I don’t believe that for a moment. Socialists have articles of faith that are never swayed by any or all evidence that they are bad ideas. The Soviet leaders were true believers in communal farms, and didn’t care that they never worked over 70 years, or even that they caused the starvation of millions of people.

Instead, they always concluded that communal farms failed because they were not given all the resources, or that they were sabotaged from within, or because the *faith* in them wasn’t strong enough.

It is delusional to the point of religious faith. Even at the bitter end, US socialists and communists would visit the collapsing Soviet Union and see nothing wrong there, imagining a “workers’ paradise”. Idiots like Danny Glover were the same way in Cuba. Some of them even thought North Korea is what they wanted America to be.

This mental illness looked so pathological that more and more it seemed like they collectively suffer from a brain parasite, like Toxoplasmosis, controlling them like rodents.

And gun control is one of the easiest to understand of their articles of faith, which is why it is so universal with them.

In Goldberg’s case, he will either shake off his moment of mental clarity, or he will be cast out from his peers as someone whose has strayed from the “true faith”, at least as far as their protozoa overlords are concerned.

This may seem a bit weird, but what you are saying fits in pretty well with a theory of why we do not see aliens from galactic civilizations.

Essentially, the theory is that when civilizations become technologically adept enought to colonize the stars, their communications become so good that they are subject to destrutive ideologies that cause their demise.

There are many destructive ideologies out there, look at western civilization and consider Gaia worship, communism and socialism, and “global warming”. Any one of them might be enough to keep mankind from the stars.

I don't believe it either. He is mildly in favor of personal defensive firearms - yet also in favor of more government controls. No doubt he'd like universal registration and yearly taxation on them. That way the government could suck more money out of our kind of people to redistribute to their kind of people, and they could come along at any time and (at least try) to confiscate firearms.

There is no arguing with "liberal logic" (yes I know that's an oxymoron). When confronted with facts, liberals will change the subject, resort to personal attacks, or merely run away. They do not give up on their core beliefs. They cannot allow facts to interfere with their beliefs, lest their rampant hypocrisy is revealed and their heads implode. I just realized today that a liberal leaning friend of mine (ex-friend now?) unfriended me on facebook sometime in the past week or two. I thought she was being quiet... She is a big obama supporter. After the election I posted a series of informational posts about why this was such a huge mistake for America. They were not just anti-obama rants. I merely pointed out what was wrong with various things such as obamacare, Bengazi-gate, Fast-N-Furious, the debt, unemployment, gas prices, entitlements etc. These weren't fact-free opinionated diatribes either (like you get from liberals). They were merely pointing out what is wrong, what is going wrong, what is going to go wrong - why obama's plan cannot work. (like his budget that got 0 votes). These posts were cross-referenced and had links to sources. She apparently couldn't deal with being confronted with facts, and dropped me. So long, you won't really be missed, beauty but no brains whatsoever.

Any time a leftist extremist says anything good about guns, self-defense, the Second Amendment, et cetera, you can be sure someone's impaled a worm on a hook for you. You're supposed to nibble, nibble again, bite and swallow it, and be reeled in, gutted, and turned into another anti-realistic, often psychopathic worshipper of the all-knowing, all-wise, all-powerful, endlessly beneficent state.

The facts are indisputable, and have been for years; deliberate misinterpretations of facts, by contrast, along with irrational denials of facts, unsupportable allegations masquerading as facts, shrill ad hominem screeds, outright lies, and perverted imitation facts are endlessly fascinating to "progressives." There's naught like a shortage of attacks against the right to keep and bear arms, but if you look closely at enough of them over a long enough period of time, you'll notice they're all variations on the same small set of flagrantly dishonest themes. Our loudly and tirelessly self-proclaimed moral and intellectual superiors don't seem capable of cooking up new lies.

I suspect part of what makes them hate-filled collectivists is envy of those who create, invent, discover, build, manage, grow, nurture, husband, harvest, store, invest, and in general pursue real progress in the real world. I think they know they're second- and third-best intellects. I think they know they're morally and psychologically stunted. I think they hate normal people first and last because they can tell they're abnormal.
