Tax the Rich: An animated fairy tale (Ed Asner)
California Federation of Teachers ^ | Nov 28, 2012 | Fred Glass

Tax the rich: An animated fairy tale, is narrated by Ed Asner, with animation by Mike Konopacki. Written and directed by Fred Glass for the California Federation of Teachers. An 8 minute video about how we arrived at this moment of poorly funded public services and widening economic inequality. Things go downhill in a happy and prosperous land after the rich decide they don't want to pay taxes anymore. They tell the people that there is no alternative, but the people aren't so sure. This land bears a startling resemblance to our land. For more info, www.cft.org.

I sure learned a whole lot of new things in that video ....

The very first thing the rich did to ruin utopia, Ed tells us, was to get TAX CUTS that led to slashed services like teachers, police, and fire protection.

Ah, yes, I remember it well: Republican tax cuts that emptied public treasuries ... and the ruthless cuts in public employment and public sector pay scales driven by Republican tax cuts over the years. Public employees hitting the breadlines ... schoolteachers on food stamps ... the savage triumph of the private over the public sector. Who could forget it. We have starved the public sector, starved it, and there's hell to pay. So says Ed.

I think we should rally to Ed's message, the first part of it at least, and demand that public employment levels and pay scales be readjusted back to the levels, relative to the private sector, that existed in 1980 prior to the beginning of the Reagan Revolution. If Ed Asner and the Kalifornia Teechurs Onion think this is fair, who am I to argue?

Greed has destroyed capitalism’s functionality and image.

Greed is just an extreme form of envy, which is why most of the greedy that make the news are hardcore leftists. Envy, a side effect of vanity, is Satan's most successful weapon for destroying things. At this point America is a lost cause. It's over but for the downhill ride.

Every example given in the video, schools, schools, roads(less interstate) and police are paid with local and state taxes. Federal taxes do nothing to help those services except in the smallest amounts. The interstate is supposed to paid for by fuel taxes. Fail. There isn’t a tax problem with state ans local, the problem is with Fed taxes.

I can’t do it, but it would be very effective to overlay an old anti-Jewish Nazi propaganda audio clip over the soundtrack.

Start it very quietly, and increase the volume while taking down Asner’s narration.

At the end of Asner’s video, they should be building guillotines, and dragging out the evil rich.

Good ol’ Ed- isn't he a fan of Trotsky?

Ed pines for 1917 and the Russian revolution- those were the glory days when REAL “socialists” knew how to deal with the rich

Started listening to this on Hannity yesterday, then Hannity starts repeating certain words assner says so I changed the station. Hannity does this a lot and it is the most irritating crap. It’s bad enough to have to listen to obammy or assner speak without H. making it worse.

Why don’t these commie lovers just give up ALL of their assets and move he hell out of our country. I’m so sick of these people. There has got to be some serious organized boycott effort against the ENTIRE media complex and ALL of their sponsors. If the unions can shut down a port, surely we can shut down our TVs and cancel our cable subscriptions. We need to hit them where they live. The democrats are nothing without the media.

I’m curious; how are you able to recognize greed when you see it and differentiate it from the plain old ambition we all should admire?

He feels guilty. He IS guilty, ultimately.
He doesn’t want to do what he has to do to really alleviate that guilt - take it to the cross. He’s his own god.

So, in order to achieve his own sense of righteousness,
he advocates for policies perceived as “helping” people.

True greed is somewhat rare. Most "greed" brought up by the MSM is actually simple envy projected onto the target. One test for true greed is if someone knowingly breaks laws, lies, cheats, and steals for no other purpose than to boost their bank account "score". The truly greedy tend to drive themselves into jail under their own power.

Oh my, I watched a critique of his video. He sounds like such a smirking, drunken, arrogant, trendy, hipster that it irritated me so much. Yeah because the “99%”(ugh) want to see the dysfunctional extension of government interventionism. Him and Joseph Stiglitz should sit in some room and try to outsmirk one another. Such annoying Left-Wing arrogant hipsters.
