TAVARES, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
Lake County officials say one of their top priorities is to get the state to clarify its gun laws to prevent stray bullets from landing in residential areas. The problems stems from an area near the Mount Dora Country Club.
Earlier this year, Jerry Benedict spoke with FOX 35 reporter Valerie Boey about bullets reaching his yard, describing the sound for her.
"Eeeenyow... Kabloom, and it went right through that grass there, right next to us about 8 or 10 feet away!"
The gunfire was coming from a private property in a wooded area near that neighborhood, but the Lake County Sheriff's Office did not make any arrests at the time. Lt. John Herrell with the Sheriff's Office says sometimes they can arrest people shooting guns, and sometimes, if no one is injured, and the bullet did not go over a roof, they can not.
"Sometimes we can and sometimes we can't. Like I said in either case it's a misdemeanor, so it's going to be hard to enforce either way because in a misdemeanor the deputy has to observe the offense taking place before an arrest can be made."

On the other hand, there have been numerous frauds where people claimed their houses were hit by bullets when they were not. Remember the famous photo from Iraq, where the old woman showed two complete 5.56 cartridges that she claimed had hit her house? They had never been fired!
No one from the range that is alleged to be the source of the bullets is allowed to make a statement. This is not journalism, it is advocacy.
It doesn’t matter. Even with a very clearly written law, like say the 2nd Amendment, those who live by Fear and Envy and Hate will simply twist it’s plain meaning and make it convoluted once again.
Our vacation house is in a rural area on 20 acres. A neighboring family - both lawyers - is staunchly anti-gun / anti-hunting. They have even attached a “No Hunting - Don’t Even Ask! sign to a county speed limit sign.
I have the perfect area to build a small private range with natural backstops and sound suppression. I have not - all it would take to have all my guns confiscated (and me arrested!) would be for them to dig in the backstop, find a few bullets, then throw one through one of their windows, and call the cops...
OK, I can understand the "Kabloom", but what the heck is "Eeeenyow"?
I was at the range yesterday, and the closest I heard was when a fellow said "I don't re-load, do eeeenyow guys want my brass?". lol
Anti’s can be very dishonest in pushing their agenda.
Hollywood. Hollywood uses special effects to make sounds like that. Think of the sound used in old westerns when a bullet ricochets off of something.

No law can prevent a bullet from doing anything. They land where force, velocity, gravity, etc. have them land Those are the laws a bullet obeys!
So your neigbors have won. They have stopped you with out fireing a shot to say.
I have made sure to develop ranges on all my property and to shoot on them.

Anchor a piece of chain link fencing across the soil of your backstop. Then cover it with an inch of sand. That will keep anyone from digging and retrieving your spent bullets.

And, BTW, we still shoot on the property - we jes’ loves dem jalapeno cheese elk sausages for breakfast!
