The Cleveland Plain Dealer plans to cut 58 positions out of its newsroom staff next year, according to the Northeast Ohio Newspaper Guild. That's roughly one-third of the guild's 168 members.
"We found out about them in the last few days," said Harlan Spector, of the Northeast Ohio Newspaper Guild. "The company has said that they're going to cut the unionized workforce of the newsroom to 110 next year."

In this roaring Obama economy, they’ll find great jobs right away. :)
At least they will have cellphones!!!!!!!!!
Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of Marxists, Happy Wicken Solstice!
On their last day, do they hold an office party and give each of the parting comrades their very own Gold EBT card?
Don’t despair, Obama voters! Obama feels your pain.
Now, when is tee time?
“There’s great interest in this city in maintaining a seven-day-a-week paper”
But apparently not enough actual interest for actual advertisers or actual subscribers to pay actual money for said putative seven-day-a-week interest.
maybe the rest will be reduced to 29 hour weeks
or maybe they will publish 3 days a week like the New Orleans rag
The New Oleans rag dropped to 3 per week
Related note. Latimes raised newsstand cost from dollar to dollar fifty this week.
As a former Clevelander, I say good riddance.
But this looks like a situation for Baraqqi Bucks to be helicoptered in to save the day. Doesn’t he want another 60 bil in stimulus for 013?
Our local Gannett generipaper here in Indianapolis came out with a big price increase. I called them up and said give me the old price or quit sending the paper. Took them about 10 seconds to agree.
Did the same thing with cable company and XM Sirius.
In the Baraqqi Depression, everything is negotiable (except the IRS).
sweet! I just hope that those losing their jobs all voted for Obama.
I want everybody who works for the Democrat "mainstream" newsrooms to lose their jobs, their homes, and their families. For what they have done to the America I grew up in, they deserve nothing less. Happy kwanzaa!
I’m not a subscriber
Those second tier papers could have stuck around if they had become smaller, tabloid and lively like a NY POST or bent to a new niche like the WASH TIMES
They did it to themselves. I haven't subscribed since the '80s.
LOL - good one Tzimisce.
