Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) hopes to stop a major defense spending bill in its tracks now that Democrats have added an amendment that allows them to take away the guns of certain military veterans.
The amendment contains language that bans gun ownership for a broad swath of veterans designated "mentally incompetent." Coburn says the approach is sloppy, and that as of right now, "veterans who simply cannot support themselves financially" are placed under the mentally incompetent label and therefore "cannot buy or possess a firearm."

Oh, just the vets. AND the active duty military, except the . . . well, you know.
Wonder if there’ll be price gouging for the run.
First the vets....then the rest of us. Incrementally they will try to disarm us.
This is about disarming those who pose the greatest threat to Big Brother when Big Brother drops the hammer on us. Speaks volumes about what our government’s plans are for us. Not good.
First their voting rights, now their guns.
Avoid being branded as having PTSD.
Obamanation Communism File.
I have a friend who has been collecting a nice check for that for many years, and he loves his guns, I wonder if he will come to regret taking that check.
And you can bet your bottom dollar that the Stalinists will be using a fast and loose definition of “mentally incompetent” and “unable to support financially”.
While living in the Twin Cities Minnesota, I have noticed major hostility toward our servicemen and veterans by the Stalinists. These are people who think that veterans should even be excluded from the political process (Coleen Rowley’s campaign against Congressman John Kline).
I used to use the term liberal. Then leftist. Now I use the term Stalinist.
Declaring dissenters mentally ill was a common tactic in the Soviet Union
Exactly. Once you set the precedent of surrendering an inalienable right...
I’m a Vietnam vet, been told for decades that PTSD status & bucks were mine for the asking. Told the same after I deployed to Enduring Freedom at age 55. Said no thanks.
This latest is scary. Vets are now enemies of the regime. I last qualified with M-16 at age 62. Guess that helps, now. Won’t see a VA doc ever again. Don’t want my attitude noted for record.
Now you know [If you did not already] wht the Government is buying all these bullets that some on this forum said do not worry about for. They are intended to be used on us.
We don’t let vets vote - why would we let them have guns?
Mister Schumer argues, intentionally, off the point.
It's not about whether one is judged mentally infirm, it's about WHO does the judging? (and what are their motives?)
If the alleged president can pack the NLRB, he can pack a committee in a government department. This is so transparent, and quite scary.
.
ping!
Tick Tick Tick .....
First they say, seek help for emotional problems, and then they say doing so will cause you to be denied your 2nd amendment rights. That’s a catch 22 if there ever was one.
I see where this is heading, and it’s not pretty.
they can do this to anyone now. any govt shrink can label anyone mentally incompetent ad they can take your guns.
I,m sure that many non military “friends” will gladly arm those in retired military who are weaponless when SHTF!
