South Carolina U.S. Senator Jim DeMint will replace Ed Feulner as president of the Heritage Foundation. Mr. DeMint will leave his post as South Carolina's junior senator in early January to take control of the Washington think tank, which has an annual budget of about $80 million.
Sen. DeMint's departure means that South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, a Republican, will name a successor, who will have to run in a special election in 2014. In that year, both Mr. DeMint's replacement and Sen. Lindsey Graham will be running for reelection in South Carolina.

This is terrible news
I’m not sure how to take this news.
whoa - wha?
He will be greatly missed.
Maybe he’s making inroads for a run at the White House in ‘16.
I hope so.
He didn’t want to run again in 2010. The only reason he did was to hold that seat for Coservatives and hope that they would get a majority in the Senate and the House.
He and his wife need the break from all the crap that goes with politics and they’ve sure earned it.
Does he feel that he can be more of a factor at Heritage, or is he just tired of battling in the Senate?
Congrats to Senator Tim Scott (R)
Now that would be a great pick.
Noooooooo! We need him!
Any watercooler guesses as to his appointed replacement?
He may be more effective at Heritage than he could be in the Senate. And it opens up a slot for a new young senator. How about Trey Gowdy?
Not a good sign at all.
DeMint is far smarter than the average bear. Obviously he has assessed the lay of the land and determined that if he stays in the Senate he is going to be awash in Leftist chuckleheads and GOP quislings for the rest of his natural life.
McConnel looks like a turtle in that picture.
Either way I just hope the republicans have their act together come 2014 because the SEIU is going to put boots on the ground in Carolina to capture those seats.
Erik Eriksson is in for Neal Boortz
Erik said Jim will be on Rush today...
