JIM DEMINT TO LEAVE SENATE TO HEAD HERITAGE FOUNDATION
Human Events ^ | Today | Erick Erickson

I got the call before the news went out. Jim DeMint, the standard bearer of the conservative movement in America and conservative king maker, is leaving the United States Senate.

He will succeed Ed Feulner as President of the Heritage Foundation.

While my initial reaction was one of sadness that we are losing the clearest voice in the Senate for conservatives, the upside on Jim DeMint’s departure from the Senate is mind boggling. Mitch McConnell likes it when people compare McConnell to Darth Vader, seemingly clueless that Vader lost the Death Star twice to a rag tag group of rebels in really beat up, hand-me-down spaceships.

If McConnell smiles at hearing the news Jim DeMint is leaving the Senate, he should remember Obi Wan Kenobi telling him . . . errrr . . . Darth Vader, “If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine.” Jim DeMint’s power in the conservative movement just grew exponentially. A man who was going to retire in four years anyway, will now be leading the conservative movement from its base of operations for years to come.

Without Jim DeMint we would most likely not presently have in the United States Senate Pat Toomey, Rand Paul, Mike Lee, Marco Rubio, Jeff Flake, Ron Johnson, and Ted Cruz. We would not have a Republican establishment that now worries conservatives might actually primary them.

This whole business of Boner attacking conservatives is making me sick. The result will be one party (Washington elites) rules.

He can be a more effective voice for conservatism. Best wishes.

He will no longer be fettered and shouted down by a pack of despots&miscreants masquerading as Senators and press.

What’s the TEA Party have brewing on the SC farm club?

“The Thrill (of being in the Senate) is gone.”

I hope he stays put there and digs in. Not some sort of honorary thing and he disappears. He’s pretty sharp and I think he knows what kind of good he can do if he gets out of RINO heaven.

This tells me a lot, none of it pretty:

1: Conservative voices are meaningless in today's Washington.

2: The Senate is no longer an important deliberative house.

Something I have noticed over the years, Honest men and women do not stay over two or three terms in Congress. My theory is they just cannot stand being around the thieves and grafters they either go home or find a new career.

I don't know much about Jim Demint, except to hear him tell Rush that Harry Reid is friend of his.

That does not speak well for his judgment, IMHO.
Says to me he's part of the old-school Senate where they screw America by day, and then go drinking together by night.

Harry Reid is scum - and if you count him among your friends, count me out.

Heritage needs someone..the last post i read said”if you dont know the right way to go then turn left”. Kind of a slap in the face to conservatives...but who know maybe DeMint agrees.

"I don't know much about Jim Demint,"

That just said it all for the rest of your posting. He was trying to be civil and if you paid attention to the tone, well, you wouldn't know.

My feeling is this will water down the Heritage Foundation influence with DeMint at the helm. DeMint was basically worthless in the Senate, refusing to rise up and lead conservatives. He will do the same at HF.

Jim DeMint PLANNED on leaving - he NEVER wanted to make a CAREER out of the Senate.

His thought was always that OTHER conservatives need to stand up and run for office.

People do NOT know much about Jim DeMint if they are surprised by this announcement.

Come on folks.

Jim DeMint just said on Rush’s program that “Harry Reid is a good friend of mine” and that he had just left Harry Reid’s office, and that Harry Reid is “Not the problem”. It was enough to mage a dog throw up.

Conservative voices are meaningless in today's Washington America.

Fixed that for you. Look at the results of the last two republican presidential primaries and presidential elections. Honest, principled conservatives are no longer even close to being a majority within the republican party, much less the country.

The brutal truth is that in the long culture war, we're getting crushed, and we're a slowly dying breed.

Kudos to Senator DeMint!

A rediscovery and revival of the ideas essential to liberty for a society of individuals must be the primary focus of any who call themselves "conservatives" today, else liberty is lost!

Those ideas, according to Jefferson, were the ideas of "the American mind" of 1776, and a passion for liberty motivated the Framers of the Constitution of the United States.

By participating in the "political" charade of Washington, and failing to be true statesmen on behalf of limited government and liberty for "the People," (which is their Constitution's demand of them), McConnell and Boehner have made themselves irrelevant to the preservation of liberty.

Hopefully, DeMint will participate in leadership of a great national educational effort to restore knowledge and understanding of the principles and ideas of liberty which underlie our Constitution.

conservatives need to move out of the liberal states now and move to swing states or red states like VA, FL, CO, NM, NC thus making those swing states conservatives and solid at that.

Imagine a cuple of million conservatives moving to those states thus denying those liberal states tax money, making the swing states solid republican and then having their votes count for once unlike living in places like CA, MA,.

Half a million to VA, FL, CO, NM, and NC.

The elft could never win any election again whilst we have those states solid for us and then we can also vote in more conservatives to the house and senate.

That is a lefts and the leitist old guard north east, DC beltway, west coast biggest night mare.

For the record I got my wife and fmaily out of MA adn to FL, we know our vote is counting here, our money goes to more republican issues and we have less Govt controlling us plus she said it was the best move she ever did.
