DILWORTH – Police arrested a man here after they say he used a backpack lined with tinfoil to bypass a store’s security equipment and steal over $100 in merchandise, according to a WDAY news report.

Police say Antonio Ramirez, 21, stole $133 in items from Wal-Mart here. Ramirez faces felony charges and up to five years in prison. Using a bag lined with tinfoil to circumvent alarm systems automatically escalates the charge from a misdemeanor to a felony, WDAY reports.

5 years in prison for $133 - tough trade.

“Some people will admit they went into the store with an intent to shoplift which is a “confession” to a more serious crime.”

I’m glad I got caught shoplifting when I was in the fourth grade! Went to the grocery store and bought a pack of gum, and asked for it to be put into a large brown grocery bag. Then went across the street to the Five & Dime Store and took my time as I pretended to browse for the right kind of candy which I finally bought.

Of course my bag was full of other stuff and I got caught. I imagine it was simple enough for the grocery store to figure it out and then call their friends at the Five & Dime. (Stupid kid!) They called my mom and dad down. (I wish they had just called the cops!).

I’m sure glad I got that out of my system as a kid! (And years ago.) After that I wouldn’t even pick up a pencil sitting on the floor at school as it might be someone else’s.
