Michelle Obama, Bill Clinton nominated for Grammys By Alicia M. Cohn - 12/06/12 03:58 PM ET

First lady Michelle Obama and former President Clinton will be competing for music's top prize next year — both have been nominated for a Grammy in the spoken-word-album category.

The first lady is nominated for her first book, American grown, and Clinton for his fourth, Back To work: Why we need smart government for a strong economy.

The competition will also be a rematch of sorts for the first lady and Ellen DeGeneres, following their friendly push-up competition. DeGeneres is nominated for her book, Seriously... I'm kidding. Other nominees are MSNBC's Rachel Maddow for Drift: The unmooring of American military power and singer Janis Ian for Society's child: My autobiography.

While they would not be competing in the same category, the first lady did beat out big-name artists such as Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj and One Direction, who were all snubbed by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.

The 2013 Grammy awards show will air Feb. 10, 2013.

Agreed. It is “worthless nonsense”. However, how in the Sam HIll does Mooshelle beat out other “big-name artists” is she isn’t in the same category? If they are not nominated, then how can she beat the out?

The moocher probably had someone else write what she read. She is the ultimate untalented, affirmative-action, equal-opportunity “Worst Lady”. She is insufferable and...subhuman.

Rush releases their best album in over 20 years and get zero nominations....AGAIN. Yet these assholes get nominations over and over.

Grammys like the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame are totally worthless.

For over 20 years, the spoken word category in the Grammy’s has been used to reward a person’s politics and NOT the merit of the recording.

Jesse Jackass, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Al Gore, Jimmy Carter, Barack Obama, Maya Angelou, et al have won Grammys.

So did Milli Vannili.

This is why the recording industry sucks rotten eggs.

I remember when it was proclaimed that Chelsea Clinton was the most beautiful woman in the world! Aren’t we lucky to have such people as the Clintons and the Obamas in our lives? /s

She “beat” them because she was nominated and they weren’t. It’s confusing because it’s really, really stupid. I guess Michelle Obama beat Kobe Bryant and Winston Churchill by that logic, too.
