He was a lucky guy. I’ll bet he had some stories to tell.

My DIL’s folks were born in Honolulu and were about 12 years old when the bombs started falling.

I hope we never see anything like that again.

Every account I’ve read about Helena goes on about how efficient & effective she was. Was your FIL on her at Kula Gulf?

His honor to his country is recognized. That mighty cruiser thought damaged, went on as some of us are aware to serve in the South Pacific, only later to be sunk. Was he among those that where able to be saved?

The heroic rescue of the crew of the sunken Helena is one of the great stories of WWII.
