It's strange how wars are remembered – and forgotten.

On this day, Dec. 7, let's honor Pearl Harbor's fallen and never forget that the awful attack was one of several costly battles that day.

Story is a reminder that the Japanese attacked Hong Kong, China and the Philippines while also attacking Pearl Harbor. The world forgets how evil the Japanese people were - remember the Rape of Nanking? I remember a few years back the political left here was blaming America for the attack or that FDR knew and let it happen. The blame America first crowd always forgets the facts.

The FDR knew and let it happen shibboleth has always been a right-wing kook thing, pretty much, and plenty of nitwits on FR have promoted it.

Pat Buchanan was blaming America for the attack because we weren't nice enough to the Japanese.

And Tom Hanks accused the US of racism as the only reason we attacked Japan. I have also never heard Pat mention that. As for FDR and the right as my experience holds is they did not like his politics and the new deal - I have only heard the blame America first from the political left.

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright seems to have bought into this as well.

Astoundingly stupid article from Buchanan blaming the US for Pearl Harbor and Japanese aggression.

One of the main idiocies is that we blocked Japan from their rightful gains in World War I; actually Japan with only about 400 killed in the war gained millions of square miles of German Pacific territory (which we had to bloodily fight through in World War II).

I remember that day well ... Had just relocated to Norfolk Virginia as our nation prepared for war. Biggest shock before Dec 7th was my introduction to racism ... Among other things, water fountains and restrooms on the ferry between Newport News and Norfolk had “Black” and “White” signs on them.

Counting the minutes that Obamagabe makes a speech apologizing to Japan for the over-reaction of the US to Pearl Harbor.

Yes, those @-holes should be made to read Iris Chang's The Rape of Nanking or Gavan Daws' Prisoners of the Japanese. That barbarity and cruelty, to this day, boils just beneath the surface of Japanese culture. It is they who are the most racist society on Earth.

You are right, is read like an “astoundingly stupid” and myopic writing by Pat - but I have never been a fan of his anyway. It looks like he was remembering only parts of history to stop us from what he felt was a mistake to attack Iraq.
