The unemployment rate for civilian government workers plunged from 4.2 percent in October to 3.8 percent in November, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, as government added 35,000 to its taxpayer-funded payrolls during the month.
In October, federal, state and local governments in the United States employed 20,524,000 people. In November, that climbed to 20,559,000.
As recently as July, the unemployment rate for government workers was as high as 5.7 percent, according to the BLS. That month, government employed only 20,015,000.
Since July, times have been very good for government in the United States, with governments managing to add 544,000 workers to their payrolls.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics counts someone as a government worker if they are not in the military and they are currently employed by any level of governmentlocal, state or federalor they are unemployed, they are looking for work, and their last job was for any level of government.
Why not have the Leviathan hire everyone and have no unemployment. Problem solved.....
I think that is actually where this is headed.
Da, tovarisch!
How can they classify government workers are unemployed? For instance, if you’re unemployed, regardless of the industry, you’re unemployed. But how can you classify someone as unemployed in/from the government? This doesn’t make any sense to me.
Are they saying that unemployed persons who were former government employees account for only 3.8% of total unemployed?
Yes, it is "progressives" who have taken America back to the Old World ideas which preceded the great experiment in ordered liberty, bringing America to its knees before the world under a regime which pretends to "take care of" us.
Thomas Jefferson warned Americans:
"To preserve [the] independence [of the people,] we must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. We must make our election between economy and liberty, or profusion and servitude. If we run into such debts as that we must be taxed in our meat and in our drink, in our necessaries and our comforts, in our labors and our amusements, for our callings and our creeds, as the people of England are, our people, like them, must come to labor sixteen hours in the twenty-four, give the earnings of fifteen of these to the government for their debts and daily expenses, and the sixteenth being insufficient to afford us bread, we must live, as they now do, on oatmeal and potatoes, have no time to think, no means of calling the mismanagers to account, but be glad to obtain subsistence by hiring ourselves to rivet their chains on the necks of our fellow-sufferers." --Thomas Jefferson to Samuel Kercheval, 1816. ME 15:39
Note Jefferson's very last thought here. He declares that when government taxing and debt have reached certain levels, in order for individuals to survive, then their chosen "employment" becomes "hiring ourselves to rivet their (the government's) chains on the necks of our fellow-sufferers." Might that account for why it is government employment levels which have risen at such great rates in the past 2 years?
Inasmuch as government creates no wealth and has no money, the pay for every job in government must first come out of the pockets of hardworking citizens in the private sector or be borrowed (to be paid back eventually from the pockets of future generations).
Ahhh, guess that's what you call "redistributing" wealth! In Jefferson's words, it's called "rivet(ing) chains on the necks of our fellow-sufferers."
Could be. Drudge article shows 73% of new jobs in last 5 months from Government.
TSA at my Airport went on a MASSIVE hiring spree starting back in July.
They now have so many people, they have no idea what to do with them. At times, they have four “Strollers” in each concourse, with no passengers there, at all.
And this is just a medium-sized, mostly RJ airport. Your tax dollars at work saving Obama’s reelection. Hopey-changey, suckers.
“Why not have the Leviathan hire everyone and have no unemployment. Problem solved.....”
Millions of new, and very loyal and reliable, Democrat voters, all financed with YOUR money.
Damn. Thomas Jefferson’s words are amazingly relevant STILL today. What an incredible visionary he was.
I forgot the sarcasm tag !
I forgot the sarcasm tag !
I wonder if the count things such as teachers and nurses hired on federal grants.
So 3.8% are unemployed. Of the 96.2% how many are working?
Government employment must include all people who receive direct of indirect compensation from taxpayers - including the military industrial complex (e.g. contractors) - plus university employees, lobbyists, "non-governmental agencies", private regulators enforcing public laws... and the list goes on...
Do you all realize this is it? This IS the victory for the people who hate freedom. What can you do when the government is employing so many people? You can’t cut it and it can’t be supported. No one is going to vote themselves out of a job. This is it. Things are going to start to domino very quickly, bullets will fly, blood will be spilled.
I don’t like it but there is absolutely nothing that can be done to stop it. Look to the Lord.
I say the Congress should pass a law taxing the Federal government at 50%. Why not? It doesn't pay a dime in taxes under current law, and has enough money to erase the deficit easily.
We need to tax the Federal government immediately to provide needed programs to the poor, to erase the deficit, and to prevent us from going over the fiscal cliff.
I'm sure there are 0bama voters out there that are stupid enough to run with the idea above.
