The amount of money spent on welfare programs equals, when converted to cash payments, about "$168 per day for every household in poverty," the minority side of the Senate Budget Committee finds. Here's a chart detailing the committee's findings:[see link]
"Based on data from the Congressional Research Service, cumulative spending on means-tested federal welfare programs, if converted into cash, would equal $167.65 per day per household living below the poverty level," writes the minority side of the Senate Budget Committee. "By comparison, the median household income in 2011 of $50,054 equals $137.13 per day. Additionally, spending on federal welfare benefits, if converted into cash payments, equals enough to provide $30.60 per hour, 40 hours per week, to each household living below poverty. The median household hourly wage is $25.03. After accounting for federal taxes, the median hourly wage drops to between $21.50 and $23.45, depending on a household’s deductions and filing status. State and local taxes further reduce the median household’s hourly earnings. By contrast, welfare benefits are not taxed."

This doesn’t even begin to include all the free stuff that the parasites get from taxpayers. All tax free and politicians promise more and more.
These people live a leisured, hassle free lifestyle and get everything handed to them.
Welfare pays better than many lower paying jobs, or even many average paying jobs in lower cost of living areas. There’s no hope for balanced budgets until millions can be moved off welfare into jobs. And at present the jobs aren’t there to move very many.
Our government has royally screwed this nation up in numeous ways.

However, note that this is comparing total welfare spending/household to individual income. It's a misleading comparison.
Welfare recipients don't see this much income. Anyone want to guess how much is skimmed off the top by bureaucrats before it reaches the poor?
Reagan pointed this out in “the speech” (actual title “A Time for Choosing).
“But now we’re told that 9.3 million families in this country are poverty-stricken on the basis of earning less than 3,000 dollars a year. Welfare spending [is] 10 times greater than in the dark depths of the Depression. We’re spending 45 billion dollars on welfare. Now do a little arithmetic, and you’ll find that if we divided the 45 billion dollars up equally among those 9 million poor families, we’d be able to give each family 4,600 dollars a year. And this added to their present income should eliminate poverty. Direct aid to the poor, however, is only running only about 600 dollars per family. It would seem that someplace there must be some overhead.” Ronald Reagan
They’re completely unable to take care of themselves, as well.
And when those checks stop, or hyperinflation makes them worthless, they’re going to be in real sad shape.

Thank you for posting this. I know people on welfare, and it is really hard. The real parasites are the bloated bureaucracy who live well off tax money and treat the poor and disabled like crap.
