Check. Contact the chief of the Israeli Commandos. They'll get this guy out.

I would suggest petitioning the President, but considering his hatred of the US Military that would be a waste of time.

When this was still the United States of America, The President and Secretary of State, would recognize there responsibility to protect it’s citizens.

They would use flowery language to send a quiet message to Mexico and tell them, “send our guy home now, or, we’ll come and get him.”

There would be a quiet response from Mexico, to the effect, “Sorry for the misunderstanding! Do you think he would like a beer for the road?”

I feel bad for this guy for sure.However,Mexico...like the United States...is a sovereign nation. And not all sovereign nations have laws that Americans understand and/or agree with. The story seems to suggest that he did,in fact, bring a firearm into Mexico, apparently in violation of Mexican law. That's all the info I need.I,for example, have done some traveling in my day...including to Third World countries. One thing I learned early on...*particularly* when entering a Third World nation...is that you're at the mercy of *their* laws and at the mercy of *their* level of corruption. An American is silly to expect the same degree of “decency” in a Third World hell hole as he/she expects at home.

“Anybody have any ideas on how to get this guy home?”

Pay the money—whether to the police, the gangs, or whatever. That’s they way it’s done in Mexico.

Don’ think that it’s a country run by laws, because it’s not.

This is crazy. I personally know a dozen hunters that have crossed in and out of Mexico, some for thirty years and never had any problems that a respectful smile and maybe a hundred bucks couldn’t cure.

Get in their face, disrespect them or dare them to react and your @ss is grass(unless you know someone of rank or importance)

These rules are well known and/or just plain common sense. Claiming to be unaware of Mexico’s vagaries just does not cut it with me.

The .410 bore Sears & Roebuck shotgun once belonged to his great-grandfather.

What, you were expecting an AR-15?

As Gov. Perry has been known to say, “don’t go to Mexico, it ain’t safe”. Take it to heart. It’s hard enough to keep Mexico out let alone doing something stupid like going there.

When is the treatment of American citizens in Mexico and their rights vs US treatment of Mexicans going to be an issue when we discuss amnesty ?

Ever hear of reciprocal aggrements ? These are arranged to protect the rights of American citizens working or living in other countries.

Why is it when it comes to citizens of other countries we are required to offer them the same privledges as we do to US citizens? But when it comes to US citizens who get in trouble or attempt to do business in other countries they do not get the same treatment their citizens get.

Americans can’t own coast land in Mexico. And get no title to it elsewhere. If they run out of cash they’ll get unceremoniously sent back or put in jail untill some relative comes up with the “fresh”. That’s just for starters as for granting them voting privledges yea let’s give Mexican citizens that right when American citizens vote in their elections .

I feel for this guy. But he broke the law in mexico. The fact he’s a former US Marine who served in iraq carries zero weight in another country (it practically carries no weight here!).

At this point it may be too late to pay a bribe.

It is not a bad idea to carry a few hundred bucks on you while in Mexico and $1000 should get you out of most problems at the onset of an issue with the police.

But when you enter Mexico, they will offer search your vehicle and they are looking for guns.

The Second Amendment does not apply south of the border.

Bill RIchardson? He loves being in the news and he goes to Korea a lot. I doubt he’d worry about a trip to his homeland if he got some press out of it.

To those who say the Marine should have known better.....it was an antique gun that most likely would have “passed” the measurement standard if the militants weren’t so greedy. Too bad he didn’t have a couple of hundred to get that bribe done.
