Skip to comments.Piers Morgan’s Solution to Gun Violence: “I’d Remove Every Gun in America”

On Monday, Research Director of the Independence Institute David Kopel appeared on CNNs Piers Morgan Tonight to debate the issue of gun-related violence with Piers and Josh Horwitz from the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence.
In the video below, you can see the debate unfold. Whats most telling in this exchange is Morgans admission that he, personally, would like to Remove every gun in America.
Of course, what preceded this statement only seconds earlier was the perfunctory disclaimer, which is often made by those who secretly wish to pass onerous gun laws, I do have a respect for the Second Amendment.
So, obviously, theres a clear contradiction here, on one hand, Morgan (if he had his wish) would confiscate every gun in America, but on the other he claims to have respect for a law-abiding citizens Constitutional right to keep and bear arms.
Piers, you cant have it both ways. You clearly do not respect the Second Amendment if youre true stance is pro-confiscation.
There are two points other points to be made about this debate. The first is that the proliferation of gun ownership in America has not led to an increase in gun-related violence. Kopel pointed this out. And its true.
The most recent study to elucidate this fact, as Kopel alluded to, was the study done in Virginia that examined crime data and gun sales from 2006 to 2011 and found a negative relationship between gun sales, which increased 73 percent over those five years and gun-related violent crimes, which fell by 24 percent over the same period.
Though, because the study doesnt compute with Morgans preconceptions about guns and crime, he called it a load of absolute claptrap.

Does that include the gun that protects his ugly a$$? Didn’t think so!
Oh, no wait... it led to wholesale slaughter at the hands of their own governments.
And yet we are called "criminal" when we resist. Simply amazing.
Some “progressive” singer had a song a few years back that kept going “maybe it’s the..., maybe it’s the...”
The payoff line? “If it were up to me...I’d take away the
(Okay I looked it up; Cheryl Wheeler)
>>Some have interpreted that to mean that Cheryl is in favor of getting rid of all guns. I think it is more accurate to say that the song promotes keeping guns away from unsupervised children. My interpretation of the song is that we can debate forever over the “cause” of increased violence, but children will keep getting killed until we do something to make it harder for children to get easy access to firearms.
>>Maybe it’s the high schools, maybe it’s the teachers
Maybe it’s the tattooed children in the bleachers
Maybe it’s the Bible, maybe it’s the lack
Maybe it’s the music, maybe it’s the crack...
Maybe it’s the end, but I know one thing.
If it were up to me, I’d take away the guns.
That’s why he’s a SUBJECT and we’re citizens
If we could magically remove every gun in America, violent crime would continue.
If we could magically remove every violent criminal instead, violent crime would plummet.
British assholes are the reason we have a 2nd Amendment.
Molon labe, Piers. And don’t send paid goons (paid by yourself or the tax payer).
Wonder if he’d also like to back time up to uninvent cellphones, too, since that tabloid scandal is about to take him down in the UK.
Perhaps he ought to reflect on the fact that, in both matters, guns and phones, it’s not the implement/tool at the root of any problem — it’s the humans that use them that cause the problem.
LOL! After this idjit started catching flak about banning guns, he started whining about his right to free speech.
I couldn't help myself! I twittered him and asked what he was going to be defending that free speech right WITH.... a rolled up newspaper?
Oddly enough, I never received a reply!
No, Piers. We would remove you first.
THAT'S why they felt Concord was a cake walk.
They didn't expect fly-over country after the bluestate Bostonians
(put in present-day cantext and vernacular, of course)
And HOW might I ask would he remove every gun?
I am so glad we have an NRA to fight off these ignorant moronic SOBs
I wonder if this poor fellow was affected by the fact that his parents name him “Piers”?
Go home, Piers. You'll wish you had a gun, or a boatload of them, once the muzzies take full control of Britain....which won't be very long from now the way things are going. So, go home and take care of your own problems.
If I had my way, there would be no CNN at all.
"Morgan studied Journalism at Harlow College." - Not even able to graduate from college.
"Morgan was recruited (he says headhunted by editor Kelvin MacKenzie) to join The Sun newspaper, specifically to work on the Bizarre column." - Now THAT makes sense.
Piers is obviously a Mental Giant.
"Morgan was fired from the Mirror on 14 May 2004 after authorising the newspaper's publication of photographs allegedly showing Iraqi prisoners being abused by British Army soldiers from the Queen's Lancashire Regiment. Within days the photographs were shown to be crude fakes." - Plenty of personal integrity too.
"In 2007, Morgan was filmed falling off a Segway, breaking three ribs. Simon Cowell and others made much of Morgan's previous comment in 2003, in the Daily Mail, after former U.S. President George W. Bush fell off a Segway, that "You'd have to be an idiot to fall off, wouldn't you, Mr. President?""
"In October 2003, journalist and television personality Jeremy Clarkson reportedly emptied a glass of water over Morgan during the last flight of Concorde. In March 2004, at the British Press Awards, Clarkson punched Morgan three times in a clash over The Mirror's coverage of his private life, and accusations that Clarkson did not write for his column in The Sun himself. Morgan reported on a rapprochement with Clarkson in the epilogue of his book, Don't You Know Who I Am?." -LOL
Final conclusion: Piers is to be ignored. (and that's just based on his Wiki c.v.)
