Nine Beers Americans No Longer Drink

After three years of declining sales, shipments of domestically sold beer are up by more than 1% in the United States this year. Sales of light beer and specialty beer, such as Budweiser Light Platinum, Shock Top, and Blue Moon, have been the driving force in the resurgence of U.S. breweries.

While sales of specialty, craft, and small-market beers have improved dramatically, many of the traditional, full-calorie beers that were once the staples of most breweries have fallen behind. In the five years ending in 2011, sales of Budweiser, which was once the top-selling beer in the country for years, have fallen by 7 million barrels. Sales of Michelob are down more than 70%. Based on data provided by Beer Marketer’s INSIGHTS, 24/7 Wall St. reviewed the nine large — or once-large — beer brands with a five-year decline in sales of 30% or more...

I used to drink Milwaukee’s Best Light by the truckload in college. I stopped. Now, its sales are down noticeably. Coincidence? I think not. I’s like to apologize to all of the employees. :-) Another Laffer !!

Used to own a small tavern in Seattle in the’80s. PBR on tap. I had a Saturday night last call special - a six-pack of Hamm’s 16 oz. to go for $4.00.

I’m not snooty. I mostly stick to Beck’s or Heineken. Don’t care for wheat brews. Wheat belongs in bread and breakfast cereal.

Murphy’s Stout is a worthy foe for Guinness but not so easy to find. I kept a small stash for one customer who really liked it. Not a big seller, though.

I don’t drink a lot of beer anymore, but I do like Fat Tire and Shock Top. Shock Top has a seasonal out called End Of The World Midnight Wheat, which is my current fave. My husband drinks only Yeungling. I also enjoy Killian’s from time to time, but I can’t find it on tap anywhere around here, and I prefer it that way.

“Mickey’s big mouth...you could fit your junk in the empty bottle and pee in it.”

I circumcised myself trying to that with a pull-tab can.

Yes, no storm problem other then overnight power outage.
It passed about 50 km south of us.
It was, however, bad on Mindanao...maybe 1000 killed.

We called these “Brain grenades”. The old pulltabs resplendent added go the effect.

Yeah, when I looked it up, I was surprised to find that it’s really not popular anywhere outside of the town where it’s made, and even there, Guinness still outsells it 3-1. But it happens that my local grocery store always has four-packs of tall boys in stock for a good price, so it’s the only beer that I ever have in my fridge.

I’ve always preferred the slightly sweeter Murphy’s to oh-so-dry Guinness. Look for Keegan Ales (from Kingston, NY) “Mothers Milk” as a Murphy’s substitute.
