The construction and agricultural lobbies in Texas are very influential. They have contributed mightily to Gov. Perry’s campaigns for re-election as Texas’s Governor and towards the state’s legal stance on tightening up security along the border.

There are a huge number of Texans who have close family and business ties to Mexico, and this has a tremendous weight with how the state votes on the issue of border security.

Now it has become too dangerous for Americans to travel casually into Mexico, even to go there for a day’s shopping or an evening out to dinner.

Yesterday I visited a company that has a plant in Chihuahua Mexico. On site preshipment inspection is often required for their products. They have begun shipping products to their American plant for inspection because Americans are reluctant to visit the Mexican facility
